I have a chance to buy a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The reviews for it seem very mixed , from " the best phone i have ever owned and as good as a Iphone " to " this phone its terrible , never again "

Whats the touch screen like to use ? , how easy is it to navigate , ? does the browser work well ? , easy to text ?

I have always wanted a touch screen and the sat-nav system is something i would like for free also which this phone does, but I have always used a keypad mobile !!

So if you have one or experianced one please can you pop your views on it here , before i part with my hard earned

Many thx :)

I've got one, I'm very happy for what I paid for it. Cost £10 per month on 18 month contract, about 6 months ago.

Internet browsing is fine via opera mini/mobile. Built in wifi is good too.

GPS comes in handy too, free maps from Nokia too. There is an iplayer app and it has built in podcasting support too.

All in all, well worth it as a budget smartphone.

I've had my 5800 for 18 months and am still as happy with it as I was when I got it. It does all I want it too. First touchscreen I've had and once I got used to it its been great since. I couldn't go back to buttons, when I use my misses' phone to text it seems old-fashioned. Definately recommend.

  • Echo the other sentiments - have had it for 16 months and am very pleased with it.

As well as calls / texting I use it for sat nav, podcasts, web browsing, 2 x email accounts and also have endomondo for gps recording of running, cycling etc. All the apps I've had are free from the ovi store or available from the web

Am just wondering whether to go for the new X8 and stay with the symbian O/S way of doingg things or make the move to android, but that's a whole other post

I like it, Previous had a N95 8GB. The screen is better and its quicker to text. I get good battery life and its not to bulky or heavy.

The only downsides are compared to iphone/android is the apps aren't fantastic.

had mine for over a year very happy with it.I've had no real problems in this time.

When you get it make sure you update the firmware. It has some apps but nothing fantastic. Use Opera as a browser and you cant go wrong.

    I have one.
Its a good all rounder and an ok cheap smartphone but its no iphone.
Despite what people write about it being a rival to the iphone its not. My 5800 and my 3gs are chalk and cheese but they should be given the price difference.

I've had mine for 18 months and positives are
    • Easily fits into pocket
    • Love watching youtube, bbc programmes on iplayer
    • Decent browsing experience uisng Opera mini
    • Very good appealing screen resolution
    • Very good battery life
    • Very good music player
    • Very sturdy
I'd dropped mine couple of times from 5 feet onto a concrete floor, except for a few scratches never had any problem. and once i lost the phone while getting out of my car....mobile sat between the tyre and edge of footpath for 20 mins and it was pouring down. when i found it it had all the dried leaves and drops on the screen while still working.....just removed the battery and placed it next to a heater for 48hrs....and bingo.....it happened nearly 9 months ago but till now never had any problem....

    downside is
    • Unimpressive camera and its flash
    • Not as many free apps
    • No doc or pdf viewer (not free, but have to pay)
I was happy with my phone until I recently got my first android HTC Wildfire....Wildfire beats nokia 5800 by leaps and bounds in all the categories except for screen resolution and battery charge. But I still love my 5800 although now not as much as my wildfire.

    hope this helps.

I had one, it was pretty decent, music player is good, camera is ok, wifi option is great, the browser did have a habit of crashing if you tried to rush it, pretty decent phone

Adobe has a free PDF viewer for the phone, im sure of it. Atleast i had one pre-installed.

And on the unbranded handsets, the latest version of the firmware like v50 it think does come with quickoffice.
