Do you ever stop worrying about your kids?

DS is 19 & has spent the last 5 weeks in the US with his American GF. Due back later today. She has been ill with a stomach bug for the last week, although according to DS she has been at death's door.

Due to the fact that me & DH go away Monday & we need him home to look after DD (13) coupled with fact that he missed flight last year we streesed to him importance of getting home on time. This may have come over a bit strong in the email/FB messages as it is hard to express how you feel in writing.

They have got through more money than they had actually got meaning we have sent about £400 in top ups. So he knows we are pretty annoyed over that anyway, although that is another story. GF was not too ill to go to airport with him as she emailed to say she saw him through security & then was on FB.

He is coming back via Amsterdam & that flight landed 2 hours ago. Flight to Birmingham leaves in 1 hour & then he has got to get train home. I texted him to contact us with definate time for picking up.

Thought he may have just replied to my text but at the moment nothing. I know he wont know yet what train he will be on , but I will feel happier once we have had some direct contact. Can't stop thinking & worrying about him. Just want to give him big hug & tell him how much we love him. I know from GF email that he is worried about our reaction to the money. We will be dealing with this once back from our holiday, but hopefully they will both have learned a valuable lesson. You cannot spend money you haven't got!

Sorry for long post. I know I am probably worrying unecessarily, but as a Mom I can't help it.

  • I don't have children myself but I know for a fact that my parents worry about me as much today as the day I was born (perhaps even more so).

    You never stop.

And it gets more so with Grandchildren.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

You never stop worrying. I'm 30 and my Mum still worries about me. I like that she does, as it makes me feel like her 'little girl' still, and I know that I can call her about anything, and she give appropriate sympathy when I'm ill/upset (unlike DH!).
However, I now worry about my parents when they go on long journies or fly anywhere, or are ill.

Thanks, at least I know I'm normal!!! Providing he is on it his flight has left Amsterdam, so I know I won't hear anything now for 2 hours. I will just be happy once I have heard that he is at least in the UK.

I'm 26, and my mum still worries about me - my career, whether I'm doing enough study towards my professional qualifications (I work in the financial services sector) etc. etc.! I'm going on holiday to Egypt later this year with my SO and she's panicking about me going on quadbikes or camels - so no, it never changes :P

I'm the same age as you, so only another 20-30 years of worry then!

Just spoke to DS, he has just got the train & will be in Cardiff at 6.30. Just relieved now that I have spoken to him. I don't know how many cigarettes I've got through today (not very MSE I know!) At least now I can start getting excited about my Hols (DH & I are celebrating 25th anniversary, hence going away on our own)

I bet I spend time worrying about how the kids are doing! They do get on very well so hopefully they will be fine & we have got brill neighbours who will keep an eye on them.

Thanks all for reassuring me that it is normal to worry.
