remember a couple of years ago, reading about an author who had one of these gizmos. his office was in his loft with a window that opened. he was near the coast so had lots of seagulls, and everytime time one went by his window and uttered its seagull shrill, his voice activated thingy typed 'aldershot'.

    good luck with yours.

    Hello

I have RSI and I suffered from it for five years now. I am using Dragon naturally speaking also, version 10.0. because mine has also flared up very badly in the past week. I know how irritating sometimes depressing the RSI can be especially when it seems like there is no cure despite going around the houses. I've seen countless doctors, consultants, hospitals, and had negative carpal tunnel syndrome tests. For me it's rather hopeless as it does limit future work opportunities and it's worrying not knowing how much worse it will get and worrying if I will have to give up work!

I find that to write posts on this board quite often Dragon NaturallySpeaking will recognise a word I say and think that I want to click it thus sending Internet Explorer away from the post and on some other page somewhere and everything dictated to the post is lost!

Anyway all the best to you, and anybody else who suffers the dreaded RSI

I love dragon - its a bit annoying at times, but it saves backache I find!

However, my laptop went wrong a couple of weeks ago and I had to re-install windowns... and now I cannot find the dragon disk to re-install it... I have ransacked the house, but no luck!

Presuming it does turn up.. can I ask for recommendations for a decent microphone please? I had a skype one, but broke it, then a wireless one which missed the beginning of every sentence... so I would love to know which microphones people have found work well.
hello I am using a Plantronics USB type headset. This is pretty old but it does the job. I'm not sure you can get it any more but there is a similar one on the Amazon website called Plantronics .Audio 655USB

From 1998 until 2008, I used to think that I only had the RSI known as carpal tunnel syndrome. Whilst using a normal keyboard etc I was getting aches in the expected locations.

I had to get an ergonomic keyboard and design my desk better.
It has not got worse, but the aches I get are in both arms.
When I lean on window sills, grip things, use tools etc, the nerve ache is noticeable after a short time and I just have to stop what I'm doing

Also if I scratch the back of my head, I get a shoulder area ache.
Sometimes the guyon canal effect stays for a few hours on the smaller two fingers of my left hand.
I could never do martial arts grips or such because grip is flaky and when rotating joints under pressure sometimes get a grind at the thumb area as well.

Since the thoughts of carpal tunnel only, I realised other conditions exist including guyon canal sydrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, radial tunnel syndrome and the other well known tennis elbow.

The site below is the best I've personally found so far, so I stopped looking..

I have not had any official diagnosis but generally people know a feeling very well after 12 years.

As for cures.. there is some keyhole surgery to consider but argh decisions are based purely on the amount of impairment I suppose and I'm not in that category.

I've seen a dubious cure for carpal tunnel syndrome online but it's just too simple to make sense.

Anyway, my point is that RSI can have than one cause for sure, so anyone who is unsure can have a look at the links above and see what makes sense.

In fact, after writing all this and considering that I seem to have symptoms in both arms at all of the above locations I wonder if I have arthritis as it can predispose to these nerve passageway issues, if I recall correctly.

If you have thrown in your lot with an Iphone try out the Dragon Dictation app - you dictate to the app - it sends the data to the Nuance (owners of Dragon) and it sends back about 98% correct text which you can correct anyway and then throw into an e-mail.
  • my son is dyslexic and going to collage.I have thought about dragon speak but dont know how good it will be for him, dose it correct spelling and gramer and do you need to say things like full stop and new paragraph.
