    Im using logitech

    thankyou!

There are loads of logitech ones - trying to narrow it down - is it a headphones/mic all in one thing? (like the telepone operator girl uses in hong kong phooey:D)

Is it wireless or not? I would like a wireless one, but the last one I had was rubbish, and I don't want to buy another duff one!

cool, thanks - just googled it and this came up
    Andrea NC181 headset ( NC-181 )
The Andrea NC 181 headset is budget-priced but gives the best results (six Dragons score) with Dragon Naturally Speaking voice-to-text software because of its high quality audio pick-up.

less than £20 too by the looks of it!

Mine was provided by DSA, so I would have thought they went for something good. As I get free support I can call them up if I have problems so it would be money saving for them to spend slightly more on a headset if necessary than keep sending people out to fix problems.

A university I worked at provided it for academics, thinking it would improve productivity (ie, get more articles out of us). It didn't, because as Martin points out, the tricky bit is the manipulation of the raw text. Academic writing is all footnotes and tricky rules about what goes into brackets or italics, and so forth. We all pretty quickly returned to typing it the old way. For RSI it would be pretty useful but only for stuff that doesn't need much formatting.

Also be careful if you have a cold. It has trouble recognising your voice if your nose is bunged up. A sneeze does, however, come out on the page as Ah - choo, at least mine did.

As a declaration of interest I actually work as the Technical Manager for Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the UK.

You may want to take a look at our new Dragon website at www.howtousedragon.com, which has loads of videos and training materials to help you get up to speed with Dragon.

Moving the mouse around is quite easy - you can say "mouse move up", "mouse move down", "mouse move left", "mouse move right", "faster", "mouse click", "mouse right click". Or you can say the command "mouse grid" and you can say the number on the screen to move it to a specific position.

Also have you seen our newly released Dragon Diction app for the iPhone?

    Hope this helps

    Gary ;)

I can recommend as a good headset the PC161, or if you have a headset then the Zalman MC1 clip-on mic.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

As a software developer with the same problem, I appreciate what a complete pain it is and fully sympathise. I've also tried all kinds of things and found exactly as you say. There's not really any great medical cure, anti-inflammatories and physio is about the best that's on offer I found. Spent plenty of money on funny keyboards and so on - none of them made any particular difference.

Your Dragon effort wasn't too bad. At least your typing is English sentences, it's no use at all for source code!

I sympathise with that - can't imagine what it'd be like - poor you

I'd recommend you delegate a bit more Martin and try to make MSE a brand covering more than one person. I suspect Mrs MSE would agree. I once sent you a bit of info at 12.30 at night and got a response about 15 minutes later. I didn't know whether to be shocked or impressed.
