Hope the RSI clears up very quickly. I've not got it myself, but I do have a ganglion on my right hand which can get a bit sore from time to time so I can sympathise.
I remember when I bought a microphone for my laptop as I was creating a video for a project I was working on. I was so impressed I ended up using it to dictate from a book for my coursework. Turned out it was a lot faster than typing it out!Who ate all the Pecan Sandies?0 -
Ive used dragon naturally speaking before, it is quite good for typing and is weird at first use, but i agree i have to go back to the mouse to move around the screen. i think i still prefer to type rather than having to speak at the computer, i think it is just because saying what i am thinking rather than typing it is just odd at the computer when i am expecting letters to appear.
Best solution is to learn keyboard shortcuts, occasional keyboard use shouldn't flare up the RSI but constant mouse use does for me.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Hi for those thinking of getting it - my biggest tip is get a headset with a GOOD microphone and ensure you're somewhere quiet or its a nightmare.
As for it typing what you speak I almost emailed one of my team "love you have a good day" as Mrs MSE was leaving the house as I was working this morning!Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

I used to use it at work and initially tried to follow the company policy for managers and be out in open plan. Er, no! It wasn't so much that the mic picked up others' voices (though it did occasionally), it was more that me talking constantly (rather than just a lot - LOL!) made my colleagues want to kill me...
I also forgot to say "pause" a few times before answering the phone, and unfortunately got a written reminder of what utter boll*cks I talk sometimes! I used to keep a record of the funniest mistakes - my fave was "absurd tricks" rather than "obstetrics" - having had a baby since, I'm not sure it wasn't right all along!
Good luck with the RSI Martin - another plague of the modern world (you probably didn't get RSI from excess ploughing in the 16th century)!0 -
Alas, Dragon isn't Mac-compatible, or I'd be speaking this rather than hunting a pecking at the keyboard... Anyone know of a Mac version? And ideally one that doesn't cost a zillion pounds...0

I love dragon - its a bit annoying at times, but it saves backache I find!
However, my laptop went wrong a couple of weeks ago and I had to re-install windowns... and now I cannot find the dragon disk to re-install it... I have ransacked the house, but no luck!
Presuming it does turn up.. can I ask for recommendations for a decent microphone please? I had a skype one, but broke it, then a wireless one which missed the beginning of every sentence... so I would love to know which microphones people have found work well.0 -

ha 'asylum' i thought you were going to go on about how bad the NHS has been at treating your condition but it was very silly of me because, obviously, you wouldn't dream of chastising the free healthcare we get
hope this episode isnt a long one, but that dragon stuff's good anyway better than my typing as ive just had to edit this twice!I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -

I have Dragon and I love it! I got it with DSA and they paid for a training session too.
I use the command "mouse grid" lots (if you haven't used it, then chose a number and keep choosing until the mouse is where you want it to be and then say "click") and I've set up commands so it types my password when I say "usualpassword" etc.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
