Well I just had a quick google, appears a lot of people have had problems with this extender.
However, try some of the idea's here:

If they don't work, let me know.:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Forgot to mention, you can do a connectivity test on the xbox by following this guide:

Well I am perplexed.
I got the WRE and XBOX ext working but only on an unsecured network. No matter what way I tried to secure the network, it wouldn't work.
I livechatted with Linksys who told me the WRE54G is not compatible with my 4 month old Linksys Gateway WAG200.
What now?0 -

Either...
Buy a new compatible router
OR
Return the WRE54G and get home plugs like I said a while back heh:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Thanks, trying not to do the homeplugs unless absolutely necessary, as quite getting used to having full wifi.
Would it be any better if I bought a N router and disgarded the Extender?
The Gateway they say is compatible is WAG54G2 but out of stock everywhere.0 -

Anyone? Which router would be best?0 -

Well N just determines the speed at which it works, so it may not actually reach the other rooms.
So I've been trying to think of another way to get this work...
My only solution to your requirements is not the cheapest..
