if you position it mid way between the gate way and the bedroom it will boost the signal as long as the wireless router and wirless extender over lap signal ranges but you will have to check the manufacturer's details / distances0

Now I am confused. I looked at the photo in the link given and it shows the 'extender thingy' on top of the router. Is that not what I do? If the extender sits midway from the Gateway and Xbox, does it have a cable to link it the the router? If so, that is going to be a nightmare. Sorry, I am not trying to be thick, it comes naturally!0

no cables ....its wireless....it can be put any where but needs a power supply0

Thanks, [STRIKE]I will order it now before I confuse myself further.[/STRIKE] ordered from Amazon.0

As you've gone the wireless route and assuming your son has an older Xbox 360 and not the new 360 S, you'll now need to go and buy a wireless adapter for it.
The Amazon price is one of the best at the moment.Dave. :wave:0 -
Thank you, just had this conversation last night with OH. Brain clicked into gear and we realised there must be 'something' missing! Ordered that too now. Just got to wade through the rest of the stuff needed.
I know I've laboured this thread, but once LIVE, what other things does my son need. Points, headsets, I guess I am just too old for this malarky!0 -
The first time, you connect to Xbox live, you'll need to create an on-line Gamertag. Once this is done, you'll need to choose between Gold and Silver. Don't do Gold yet, as you'll get 1 months free Live for going Silver anyway.
It is possible to get get 3 months free, but you'd have to create a new Gamertag each time and any achievements gained only stay with the tag.
If you create a childs account, you'll need to provide your details. It can be easier just to create an adults accounts, but that's up to you. It depends on what content you feel safe for your son to play.
Xbox Live costs vary quite a bit. If you go with 12 months, Microsoft will charge you nearly £40 if you do it through the Xbox. Buying a card on the High St or at one of the main on-line retailers will cost £30+, but there are plenty of on-line sites that'll e-mail you the code for around £28. They usually e-mail you the code within 10 minutes. As the prices vary, come back and ask nearer the time and we can recommend a safe site to use.Dave. :wave:0 -
Well I think I need some help again
I have the Xbox wireless thingy and the Linksys extender.
Yesterday I got the Xbox live thingy working when the Xbox was near the current Gateway. So that works.
Today I have configures the Extender (I think). I have two blue lights on it, which I think means it is on the network, but it doesn't appear to be doing much. Can't see we have a better connection in those hard to reach places.
Is the Extender supposed to be showing on my network when I go into the network and sharing centre? I would have thought I should see it, like I see the other PC's etc.
Can anyone help me to work out if I have got it connected properly? Thanks.0 -
