Little update ,Oh returned from overnight away with work, got phone call dad fallen mum in a panic, so off we go 10.30.last night.
Got ambulance and taken off to hospital ,where he was kept in overnight for further tests! Possibly a small stroke!, didnt get home till after 3 ,OH up for work at 7.
So as well as the money stress we now have this to deal with.
Will see what docs have to say later, could really do without this now.

I'm sorry to hear about your family problems. I wish you all the best with it.
Now your account is open, listen to what people here have said about transferring your accounts. Personally, knowing that your credit rating is about to take a spanking anyway, I would risk cancelling the direct debits with your bank - just tell them you are transferring to another bank if they ask, it's none of their business really. At the same time, prepare a template letter based on the ones already recommended, explaining the situation and offering the token payment of £1 per month until you have the professional advice. Do not do this by phone, you must do it in writing and keep copies of everything!
Make sure you include a paragraph in the letter stating that all communications must be in writing and you will not accept telephone calls regarding it. This means if they start calling you can instantly throw the harassment letter at them.
When your next salary goes into the bank, send out all the letters. Make sure you can afford the payments - send postal orders or cheques from the new account.
Be very careful when you go on holiday. Your OH hasn't got this through his head yet. He is going to want to spend money and relax, enjoy himself. The fact is, you can't afford the holiday at all. Take your bank statements with you and use the time to go through where the money is spent. Keep a diary of every penny spent on holiday and you will have less of a nasty shock when you get back.
Whatever the CAB say, remember this - do everything in writing and only ever print your signature on things - nasty debt collectors have been known to fake agreements.
Good luck xSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Hi
Can you set up standing orders on the new account? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Yes standing orders and direct debits not sure if there is a min figure though would need to look into, just wish the holiday was now so as to get everything sorted and things in place as OH and i dont seem to have enough time together to sort things out properly.
Will see tonight depending on fatherin law news!0 -
Jessie - Great news about the bank account. In preparation for things to come, can you set up an electronic transfer from your existing current account to the new one?
Do you have a post office where you live?
Have you got your lists done? I know you will be worried about your FIL, but this is something that you could do a bit and put down and come back to it.
Also, as your creditors (apart from your bank) are not paid by direct debit, you could do the same thing as you do now, but pay them a token payment. Then in the letter you send you ask for a paying in book or standing order form. This will save you 50p for each postal order.
You can get a token payment letter from the letters section of national debtline http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/debt_advice.php#6
It is called 'Ask your creditors to accept a token payment ...'0
