That seems to make no sense

If it is not necessary to patrol the beaches then that activity should be discontinued and the money saved.

If it is necessary to patrol the beaches then I would hope the council would seek the most cost effective method of doing this

Being unfamiliar with Lancing I don't know the answer to either question but simply saying that buying quad bikes is redidiculous does indeed seem rediculous

Being a keen cyclist I would favour buying them bicycles but that another story.

It is utterly breath taking. There are a number of councils that do this. Sefton Council near Liverpool is similar.

How anyone can justify quad bikes and overtime for gooks to be riding them in this age of austerity is truly astonishing.

It's not just councils. There is a collective insanity at a particular level of middle management, where the most bizarre things are not just accepted as normal, they're actually encouraged.

This is a genuine, only slightly edited, e-mail sent round my business today with a red flag importance notification.
    Dear Colleagues'

The weather across Europe is currently very hot, many people are opening windows to try and get fresh cool air into the building. Today there was an incident at our XXXXXX site where an employee decided to open a window which was higher than their normal reach. Although provided with a small step up unit the employee decided to stand on a chair to reach the window subsequently they fell off the chair, catching their head and had to go to hospital for medical treatment.

    Please note:
This kind of behavior is not acceptable under any circumstances.
It is important that you only complete tasks for which you have successfully completed the relevant Task and Health & Safety training.
Always use proper equipment and safe behaviors as per your training.
If you require assistance call your line manager or myself for advice.

If you have colleagues who do not have email access please advise them immediately.

Please note similar notifications are being sent out to all company sites today

A full safety alert will follow within the next few days at which time I will be required to asses the impact to our site.

    :rotfl::rotfl:

Boy they are scared of getting sued by their employees and fined by the HSE.

I'm surprised you haven't got someone going round and putting H&S Warning stickers on the windows.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Council tax is so high because they know you can't get away not paying it. Same as TV license. These are other forms of extortion.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I have a plastic fridge and the magnets fall off, i have now solved this problem by using Araldite. I think the council should take on a few extra people and commision research into how many people have fridges which cannot support fridge magnets, this should of course be broken down by ethnic group, income, religeon, sexual orientation, favourite colour of fruit gum, height, weight and shoe size. It's a disgrace that it hasn't already been done.

I have a built in fridge freezer so I will have to nail them on.

Chaps. I wanted to report back, as fridge magnets are one of the giveaways of this year's Summer Reading Challenge in libraries across the country, that parents have indeed said to me that they don't have magnetic fridges. Now I don't have any budget for a full research project, but I feel that I can state with some certainty that most people that I have spoken to with non-magnetic fridges are from social groups A and B. I should also report that for health and safety reasons we are not supplying children with nails for the purchase of affixing them (sorry Really2). Unfortunately I have yet to establish their favourite colour of fruit gum, but I will continue to work on this.

viva . I think your research is a bit assinine. Could I suggest it is more important to understand the correlation between race, sexual orientation, age and social status on one's choice of fruit gum.

Plus - of course - it will take more money and legions of well-meaning council officials to process the data.

I wasn't paid enough for it to be anything else I'm afraid bendix. I though you would approve my research spend of £0 as good for the British taxpayer.

It's a shame on the nails, can you give them super glue instead?

I only have one captive example on sweets but oddly at his age (3) they eat sweets on favourite colour not taste if given a choice. (providing they don't taste vile in their favourit colour that is.)
