Why not just employ people that already know all the answers, as managers.

Bet you work in the public sector.

Surely if it saves money to recycle and /or is a desirable objective of a society then it is surely worth promoting this objective with a view to making it more effective and save more money

with the coalition's emphasis on 'front line' services one can see that preventive progammes will all be scrapped

    so it is worthwhile
    -having drink driving campaigns
-encouraging children to play more sport
-encourage save sex to reduce transmission of HIV and other STDs
-encouraging the obese to take more exercise both for their sakes but also to reduce cost of health care
-it is worthwhile running campaigns so people recognise minor stokes so they can seek early treatment
    -anti smoking campaigns

and if so it is then worthwhile trying to detemine if they are effective or not

Some more where that one came from:
Council contractors removing "dangerous" conkers from trees:

Love that one, I can imagine a crack team of ex-SAS conker disposal experts.

The really scary thing is, if you look at my original post, compared to the one that was quoted, I actually altered the wording of it. This was because I found a news article, forgot to post it in but posted the gist of it, then realised that the situation was slightly different and I had to re-word the post I'd put up to say it wasn't outside contractors involved.

The reason for this? There's more than one council involved in conker-related health and safety issues, and hence more than one news article...
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

    Quick edit. :)

Of course is it. I would prefer a fridge magnet over a sticker any day.
A sticker might damage the coating on your fridge when removing it, magnets don't seem to do that.
Also the fridge magnet can be used elsewhere, like on your central heating radiators, iron fence or tool box. Don't be fooled by the term 'fridge' magnet, these things are more versatile than you can imagine. Agreed, a sticker can also be applied on the aforementioned surfaces, but then again we have to deal with removeability issues.
And 47p for a fridge magnet is a steal. Even my local Sue Ryder Care Charity Shop charges 50p for those things.
I never got a fridge magnet from my Council :(

I can tell you why Lancing Parish Council (the beaches I normally frequent are there) tax is so high: They have spent thousands of pounds on quad bikes and gooks to ride them up and down the beach to make sure that nothing untoward is happening on the beach (such as kitesurfer's riding into the empty swimming zones).

Spending money on quad bikes in this climate is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!

That seems to make no sense

If it is not necessary to patrol the beaches then that activity should be discontinued and the money saved.

If it is necessary to patrol the beaches then I would hope the council would seek the most cost effective method of doing this

Being unfamiliar with Lancing I don't know the answer to either question but simply saying that buying quad bikes is redidiculous does indeed seem rediculous

Being a keen cyclist I would favour buying them bicycles but that another story.

I have a plastic fridge and the magnets fall off, i have now solved this problem by using Araldite. I think the council should take on a few extra people and commision research into how many people have fridges which cannot support fridge magnets, this should of course be broken down by ethnic group, income, religeon, sexual orientation, favourite colour of fruit gum, height, weight and shoe size. It's a disgrace that it hasn't already been done.
