My favourite ever present was a picture of one of my pupils in a card thanking me for teaching her and explaining her favourite things I had taught her, I've kept it and I actually have a book that I keep all my students drawings, cards and letters.

    That is adorable!

I know, and it didn't cost anything. Chocolates get eaten, wine gets drank but I've got the cards, pictures and letters forever. It isn't easy being a teacher and there are some days you think you are doing crap at it but if I do feel a bit down, I take my book out and I can see there were some kids who thought I was the best teacher in the world and who I helped overcome problems or follow a certain career - that kind of gift is priceless!

YEah, that's why I wanted to do a homemade card as well. Something she can keep. TBH I haven't been hugely impressed by her over the past year, but she's an NQT so probably not at her most confident yet.

Cupcakes I like, but I have a cupcake business as my second job so it feels a bit... unoriginal, coming from me, if you see what I mean! Thanks for all the thoughts so far.

My mum is a teacher and she always shows me the presents kids actually made her, and they're the ones she keeps. Like a lot of people she's a bit bemused by the whole buying teachers gifts thing, but she does love it when she gets a picture painted for her or a card made by the child, or (my personal favourite) the salt dough model made by an imaginative 4 year old of a dragon attacking the class rabbit.

I love the model of a dragon attacking the class rabbit :D

My sons teacher put in a lot of work with him this year. The last two years he was deemed to be lazy and fell right behind and was expected to do very poorly in his SATS. The teacher this year has been fabulous and listened to me, and we agreed some extra support for my son. It's been a mix of lessons with a special needs teacher and work we've done at home, and lots of encouragement by his class teacher.

He did the SATS in May and managed to get a 5 in reading, and 4's in Maths and literacy, and was just a few marks off the 5 in maths. His teacher was absolutely over the moon with his performance and he's a different child to the one he was last September, and he's now off to secondary school full of confidence.

We bought the teacher a teacher from Oxfam Unwrapped. My son wrote a personal message in the card thanking the teacher for being the best teacher ever and said he would never forget her. He explained he'd bought her a teacher so other children could be as lucky as him and get a great teacher.

I filled up when I saw what he had written and apparantly the teacher did too when she read it :o
Here I go again on my own....

We got our son to make his reception teacher a sort of certificate - we helped him compose the words but he wrote it all out and decorated it. We figured that not only was this more personal, but he got the educational benefit of practising writing at the same time!

DD1 painted pictues onto glass pebbles and put them in leftover favour boxes we had for her teacher and TA. DD2 made brownies and a box (they'd learnt how to make boxes from a net this term) for them which she decorated all over with 'best teacher in the world' and 'heart forever'. Little ones teacher in particular has been brilliant and although I thanked him in person at parents evening the other day I don't see what's wrong with a little pressie to show someone you appreciate what they do - especially when that happens to be spending 30 odd hours a week with my kids! :D
    :heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:

We went to a craft village on their last teacher training day & painted a cup for the teacher & TA. We also did a coaster for the other TA in the class who is assigned to one of the other children who my daughter plays with a lot. I added a few bits of stationary (which I got from our work charity shop).

As well as being a lovely gift we had a great afternoon doing it.

DD also wrote & made cards for teacher & TA. I wrote a little card from OH & myself too.

My thoughts exactly - it's nothing short of bribery imo.

I don't understand how it's bribery? Surely if it was bribery you'd do it at the start of the year and not at the end? People buy gifts to say 'thank you' for lots of little things, and I think contributing to a child's education and taking care of them for almost a year, is rather a big thing!
