OK, OK, I'm a bad mummy. I left it til the last minute (actually I didn't even think about it until one of the other mums asked me what i was getting
).
DS teacher is a muslim so booze is out. I'd have thought teachers got sick of chocs and soaps - I know there are lots of you on here so can I have some ideas please! I'm going to get DS to make a card too.
Also do you give cards etc to the TAs? Seems a raw deal for them not to get anything when they work just as hard for much less money!
All ideas gratefully received. I know there was a thread about this last year but I can't find it, sorry if repeating.

I must say that all this present buying malarky for teachers etc gets my goat!! Fair enought if the teacher/TA has really gone out of their way for my child then I'd maybe make them a cake or something, but I wouldn't be doing it just cos everyone else is! I turned up to my daughter's nursery this morn (the last day of term) and thought there must've been a wedding goging on with all the stacks of presents and flowers. I hadn't got anything, like you it didnt even cross my mind. I wouldn't worry about not getting anything.0

i can tell you teachers love chocolates, and their children love them more! why not a nice bunch of flowers? TBH as nice as it is to get gifts they are not needed. Teachers choose to teach and its their job. I have only bought gifts for the TAs as usually they are the ones that get less money and tend to get over looked, and i only ever buy if the teacher or TA has gone the extra mile for my child.0

I always buy them a bottle of wine. I think anyone who can teach little kids all year is going to need a drink by the summer.0

Notebooks and book marks are always useful or even a nice pen. x0

Just to keep it very MSE (!), I bought flowers for my little fella's nursery teachers and his childminder and gave them to them yesterday. I went to M&S at about 6:30pm on Tuesday night worrying there might not be much left, but to my delight there were some they had just reduced for the end of the day (still lovely but probably only 4 of the 5 'guaranteed fresh' days left). I managed to get a really lovely big bag of flowers for the childminder for £8 (not sure how much it should have been but I'd say about £15?) and two smaller ones for £3 each (should have been £9.99!). Defo worth a look-and all three were delighted with them!

Thanks for the ideas (no booze! Like I said, she's Muslim).
I had thought about the bunch of flowers - I mean, no one ever gets flowers and thinks 'oh no' do they?! And also it's not something that will clutter up her house/spoil her diet etc. Think my DS might be a bit embarrassed giving flowers though! We have a hotel chocolat near here so I could get one of those small 4-choc boxes for them all.
This particular teacher is going to be his next year as well so I want to keep her sweet! lol.0 -
Hi, I'm a teacher (at the moment
) and I don't drink either so, as much as I appreciate the thought, I always end up having to give the wine away. My favourite ever present was a picture of one of my pupils in a card thanking me for teaching her and explaining her favourite things I had taught her, I've kept it and I actually have a book that I keep all my students drawings, cards and letters. I also have to say, I very rarely get flowers for teaching but I love them. A card with a picture in and a bunch of flowers or a plant (like a miniature rose for example) would be perfect and make my day!

DD2 and I are making big cupcakes today for all the teachers - 4 staff at nursery and 3 teachers for DD1 in Yr1 (job share) not to mention TAs etc. I am far too mean (sorry money saving!) to buy chocs/wine/flowers for all them so have got some boxes left over from christmas covered them in shiny paper and am going to do each cupcake with a chocolate letter on it to spell THANKS. Will be 6 for each class so the TAs/office staff/whoever can get one as well if they want.0

My thoughts exactly - it's nothing short of bribery imo.0
