our surgery has a gateway worker (mental health team) who will see you and then write to you suggesting what you may need.

If its cognitive therapy you need apparantely there are some good online sites so ive heard.

Some PCTs are better than others I'm afraid. One of my friends had self-harm issues, and was sent to a centre for people with eating disorders. Her problems were not dealt with and she copied those around her and now has an ED. Her parents have never stopped fighting for her, and she's finally getting the help she needs.

Another friend knew he needed help, but was refused. In the end he stood outside the doors to the psychiatric ward and self-harmed until they let him in.

Please don't do that yourself. Just persevere in whatever way you can. If you don't get help from one GP, see another, and another, call the charities, see counsellors, present yourself at A+E. Make your voice the loudest until you get the help you need. Please don't stop trying. You've made the first big step in knowing you need help and wanting to get it. Don't let anyone put you off getting the help and treatment you need and deserve.
If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:

I have been doing a lot of thinking today and have decided I am leaving my husband and children either for good or until I am well enough to be around my children. Tomorrow morning when my husband gets back from work I am going to go to A&E and i am not leaving till I get some help even if I need to stand there self harming till they do. I am going to try and enjoy a last evening with my babies tonight.

Good on you for making such a strong decision. It's a very brave thing to do, and I can see that you believe it is the right thing to do. Once you are well again you can be the best Mum to your children.

BUT please DO NOT self-harm. It will do you no good at all. Be persistant, be more persistant and be even more persistant. Tell them your fears for your safety and your children's safety. MAKE them listen to you, but please please do not hurt yourself.

The mental health system in this country is terrible, and people shouldn't have to resort to hurting themselves to get heard, and shouldn't have to reach the point where they fear for their own safety. It makes me so angry that this could have been sorted for you far more easily had they done something ages ago.

The story is the same the country over, where people are not cared for when early signs of mental illness are spotted, and things are left to get worse. I know that won't make you feel better, but it will show that you are not alone, and it is not a deliberate act against you.

I have seen the mental health system from the viewpoint of a friend and long-term visitor of a patient for around 20 years.

I hope that you are admitted for assessment (not something I would normally say to anyone ;)) and that they can provide you with the care that you need.

Lots of hugs for you and your family.

    ps, have just PMd you

Cranial Osteopathy is a proven depression natural remedy. It is painless and very calming, recommend going regularly. It will cost, but for me that was a price worth paying.

    A counsellor also is essential.

Cut out sugar, alcohol and caffine, they are dreadful for depression. There is a Good Food Cook Book for depression.

For more info look up 'getting over depression naturally' on google and you will find a mass of things you can naturally try

Sorry just taken time to read through your replies to the post. It sounds like you have been hopelessly let down by the services. Don't give up on your family, it isn't what they need. You need help, and you also need your family. It sounds like it has got worse and worse over the years because you haven't had the right treatment. Please take care of yourself, but don't give up on your family. Insist on seeing someone who will help. Have you tried contacting Mind?

What a very sad situation for you and your family, please don't harm yourself.

Phone your out of hours GP TONIGHT and tell them your are having thoughts of harming yourself, they should be able to refer you to the oncall team,. This is taken very seriously by out of hours GPs.

I found an out of hours number for the Coventry area 01926 888026, but if its not the correct one try phoning your regular GP the number should be on the answer phone.

    Good luck :)
