You could try asking your GP, if there is an IAPT service in your area that you could be referred to, there should be as there has been a massive push for low intensity CBT practitioners in the past 2 years.0

Hi,
I am not sure where you live, but you could try an IAPT service if there are any near you. These provide low intensity psychological help for people with anxiety/depression - if they see you and feel that you need more intensive help they should then refer you on to something more appropriate. You can refer yourself to an IAPT service - giving them a call, thereby bypassing the rather unhelpful GP. Well, this is the idea of them - who knows how things are in practice! They are NHS run so are free.
If you let me know where you are, I'm happy to have a look to see if there is a service near you. Or alternatively ask the GP/receptionist (sometimes they have leaflets in the surgeries).
I would seriously think about asking for a new GP. I have had lots in the past (having moved around loads) and it is soooo nice to have a good GP who cares compared to some of the ones I have had to put up with.Total Debt: 2010 May £28,038.

I really feel for you. I am bipolar and have been waiting for counselling for two years now. I rang in January to see where I was on the list and was told I was seventh, rang again two weeks ago - still seventh.January GC: £64.81/£80.00

I dont know exactly what I want but I cant go on like this it takes so much not to drive my car off the bridge near my house every time I drive over it.
Another option is to go through school - at DD1's school we have a Learning Mentor and as well as providing support for children, she also can help with parental issues and contact various people, do you have anything like that?
Also, the last bit you say above - I know when medical professionals are assessing whether they feel a person to be suicidal or not (what I mean is whether they are 'just' thinking about it or whether they are thinking of actually doing it) part of what they consider is not just the fact you say it, but the fact you think about it regularly, you have thought through scenarios, and considered, or made plans, of how you will actually do it, and if you have planned when.
Does any of that apply to you - what I am saying is you say you think you can't go on like this - but will you go on like this or is it a real likelihood that in the near future you would actually do it - being brutally honest?

Just re-reading your posts and I am worried as you sound soooo close to the edge.
Do you have the number for the Samaritans?
Also, one thing I just thought of was - when you get to the point where you are seriously worried about doing something to harm yourself - present yourself at A&E. They should at least give you an assessment and should then contact your GP letting him/her know what has gone on. Maybe someone else pointing it out to your GP may have some effect.
Well - that is what happened for me a while ago. Very worried friend took me to hospital. They didn't keep me in, but I did have an assessment - sent me home, but this really started the ball rolling in terms of getting some significant help. (Although - I did have a very good GP....)Total Debt: 2010 May £28,038.

You could give them a call and discuss your options. The turn around time to be seen should be quick.

I am also in the Coventry area. It is actually very difficult to get taken into the psychiatric unit - they are heavily over-subscribed and will treat in the community for as long as they can.
I am appalled that your GP will not help - have you spoken to the PALS service? I find that they are very good at getting explanations and getting things done.
Been there, got the T shirt and come out the other side so can imagine some of what you are feeling.
Keep asking wherever you can, for the help you so obviously need.
