How to get mental health care?

The situation is we have tried the gp again and again to no use the only thing they say is to take more pills.

Does anyone know of a way to actually get seen with out going private?

Can you see a different GP, my colleage saw one GP for 9 months and he just wanted to give her drugs, however after an incident she changed GPs and this one has continued the prescription, but stated that this is not a cure and has refered her for counselling etc to help her (at last).

Also does your employer have a facility to refer you to Occ health who can sort help out for you?

you could try going to another gp within the practice and ask to be referred to someone else - or you could turn up at A&E or your urgent care centre if you have one claiming to feel suicidal. They usually have a community mental health nurse on call/ or on duty :)

There are usually organisations that offer free counselling in most towns though you may have to join a waiting list. Surestart, Womens Aid and Womens centres usually will know of anything as a starting point.

If you do get to a bad stage such as you described, do get a friend or relative to take you up to A&E. Once you are seen, you'll be straight into the system which will probably be the quickest way to access services.
