  • Also, I had a virgin bb connection last year - I paid for line rental, and broadband, and a 'calls package' through them (whoever uses the house phone as a student, i dont know, but there was no 'opt out' option, you had to get a calls package) and knowing I had to cancel early I asked how much the cancellation would be, and was told £7 a month for every month remaining on the contract. When I actually cancelled they told me it was £10 per month per service = £30!!!! More than the package cost! When it came to it, it was actually £55 that I was billed for early cancellation for the entire period remaining.

BEWARE VIRGIN MEDIA - THEY MOVE THE GOAL POSTS.

p.s. beware BT also, was waiting 2 months to get connected with them, it never happened. They even connected the wrong house twice. What a joke.:(

Unlucky with the cancellation charges. But this is a 9 month contract -the only possible charge will be the £23.50 disconnection fee if you don't move the service to another house (mentioned in the first post). Which will cost more than the £15 for the actual package. Some people have said that they have got out of that charge, but something to be wary of.

It sounds like a great buy, but I don't think I am going to be able to get it as my address doesn't show as available (although the neighbours do) and I would need to wait to be called to see if they could do it. The problem is Quidco say this will likely mean no cashback. Shame as I really need broadband asap as well and financially this deal sounded great.

Only other worry was install times, I clicked on a link in the main forum (avoidvirginmedia.co.uk) and the length of time they take to give you the broadband seemed a bit of a worry, but I would have still risked it given the cashback. Hope it works out well for you, cheers for the info.

    Thanks.

Yeah when you order you are given a choice of times - luckily in my area the wait is a week or so, but I know in other areas they are quoting 6 weeks.
  • I'm still struggling to sort broadband, it is really doing my head in to be honest. I can't seem to figure out the best option (for people not able to get the Virgin deal). I'd really need unlimited broadband though. Would I be right in thinking the O2 is the one I should go for? Thanks very much.
  • not sure if its been mentioned, but this week in the e-mail from Martin and his colleagues, you can get a rebate, so it costs pittance to have Virgin Medias bundles

  • Hi, just letting you know that this deal:

O2 Basics Broadband 12 Month Contract (+Cashback) and BT Line Rental Saver (+Cashback) - Up to 20Mbps, 20GB/Month Download, Free Weekend Calls to UK Landlines, Requires O2 Sim (either monthly contract or pay £10 every 3 months). Requires 2 calls on BT Phone Line per month or 6 per quarter or additional £1.50/month or £4.50/quarter will be added to bill
    £0 x 3 (3 free months)
    £8 x 9 (12 month contract)
£113.88 (BT Line Rental Saver, 12 months)
    £10 x 4 (£10 every 3 months on O2 PAYG, alternatively O2 contract)
    Minus:
£50 (O2 Home Broadband Cashback with Quidco)
£25 (BT Home Broadband 'Calls and Lines' Cashback with Quidco)

Total: £150.88 (£110.88 if already with O2 Mobile)

is not possible. I've ordered BT Line rental saver, so have been given a new phone number, but when I tried to order the o2 broadband...

    'But...

The line you've got at the moment doesn't work with our broadband. We'd need to put in a new line or convert your line. We only do this on our broadband home & phone packages. Once you've selected one, we'll give you an idea of any extra costs.'

    Putting in your new line
We need to put in a new line at your home. This will cost £85.00 and we'll add it to your first months' bill. We'll offer you some appointment times later on, as our engineer will need to visit.

Please check the number you've given us. If it's right, we can't move this number to O2. We'll give you a new number and we'll confirm it when your service goes live.'

Does anyone know which broadband providers I can use with a BT line then? Hate doing this it's a pain in the !!!!.
  • To be fair although BT have given me a new number they're not actually connecting the line until Wednesday. Maybe then I won't get this message from o2.

How did you get on with this? I'm having the same problem
  • This gets worse. I have just spent the last couple of hours trying to arrange 02 broadband. Only to finally find out that I can't, because O2 don't let you have more than one address pretty much!

If you are moving to a temporary property (or have a second home) and want to have broadband on the second address your bank cards have to be registered to the temporary address or you can't process an order.

Why they can't just check both addresses or take payment in advance or understand that huge amounts of the population are either students with temporary addresses or have second homes where they might want broadband or whatever I have no idea! I have been passed from pillar to post and eventually spoke to one person who thought he might (but didn't sound very convinced) be able to overide it manually, but that would mean no cashback. I give up for now anyway. Who knew getting broadband could be so bloomin' stressful!
