4. Ofcom have recently slashed the price of early cancellation charges which will help students and others who need to cancel early.
Just remembered about the £29.99 line reconnection if you go for an 18 month contact. I'll have a look at Co-op and PO later.
[strike]Broadband + Line Rental + BT Reconnection Fee
O2 Standard Broadband (+Cashback) + BT £29.99 Reconnection Fee (18 month contract) - Up to 8Mbps, Unlimited Downloads (if in O2 'Unbundled' Area), Free Weekend Calls to UK Landlines, Requires O2 Sim (either monthly contract or pay £10 every 3 months). Requires 10 calls on BT Phone Line per month (30/quarter) or additional £5.15/month or £15.45/quarter will be added to bill. Cancel and the remaining months charged at £7.50 (Weekend/Evening+Weekend) or £8.00 (Anytime).
£0 x 3 (O2 3 free months, until end of July)
£7.50 x 9 (O2 12 month contract)
£29.99 (BT Line Reconnection Fee)
£11.54 x 9 (9 months with BT)
£7.50 x 9 (9 months after cancellation)
£10 x 4 (£10 every 3 months on O2 PAYG, alternatively O2 contract)
Minus:
£50 (O2 Home Broadband Cashback with Quidco)
Total: £258.85 (£218.85 if you are already on O2 Mobile)[/strike]
You can't get the cashback on BT as you need to call them directly. But nevertheless a saving of £16 on the original.0 -

According to this page the offer ended on 30th June 2010.0 -
But in any case, it works out cheaper to disconnect early at 9 months i.e. £109.86 vs. £113.88. This will apply from October 2010 according to the Ofcom site.
BT Line Rental Saver is non refundable as you pay for the 12 months at the beginning of the contract. It works out to be £7.40 over the 12 months once you take into account cashback. I don't think there are many deals better than that. Similarly, 12 months with O2 (with O2 mobile) works out to be £17.50 for the year. Again, I think LRS + O2 is the best deal around. But someone could prove me wrong:
However, if BT charges only £2 rather than £7.50 on the £29.99 connection offer (if they still offer it in September) then that's an additional £49.50 saving which would be super.0 -

Going with Co-op's £78.96 reconnection fee saves 51p compared to BT and LRS0

The Line Rental Saver won't be the cheapest option once the cheaper disconnection rates begin. As I said it's £109.86 vs. £113.88.
You can get the £25 cashback on both.0 -
Also these prices dont take into consideration if you've not got an unbundled local exchange. Well we do have a unbundled exchange but only have talk talk in there.0

I was totally confused as to where the £109.86 was from - but I get it now - normal £11.54 line rental for 9 then £2 for 3 months. However, in October line rental is increasing by 50p/month (therefore we will have £12.04 for 9 then £2 for 3 = £114.36).

Virgin are doing 9 month contracts on their broadband and you dont need a cable line to put it in (like their fixed line)
this is aimed at students.
£35 set up fee
£20 connection (show them an nus card when they come to install it and you dont have to pay that)
£20 a month for 10mb broadband or £30 for 20mb
best place to pop into for information is a virgin store or a carphone warehouse as they sell the set ups aswell.
one thing to let you know is at the moment they sometimes waiver the £35 charge when they call you an arrange a date to set up. also barter on the phone with them as they can adjust the deals slightly for you.
9 month contracts mean that you only need it for term time though0
