I think it must depend where your uni is and how close you are to town. My daughters uni is only 5 minites walk from the shops and is in a large city so almost every shop needs staff and its easy to get home from at night.
This could be a deciding factor is someone is making a uni shortlist. I know in my home town the uni and halls are about 10 minites out of town via bus which is no good when looking for part time jobs. If you work in a pub or club and finish at 3 in the morning its a long walk or expensive taxi ride home at that time.
