I think you can get round this by bringing in water from outside as long as you do not buy it!

Their rule is "bought" from outside - if you "brought" it with you it is OK!

    Excellent point!

Assuming this restriction wasn't originally part of the T&Cs... If there is a clause that says that you automatically accept changes to the terms unless you notify them otherwise, I'd send them a letter (by recorded delivery) stating that you reject their invitation to change the terms of your contract, and then be as open as you like about drinking your own water. Otherwise there's nothing they can do to stop you.

I woner, if you were to collapse through dehydration not having the oney to purchase a drink, they could be held liable?

Which was my exact point about it being a breach of health and safety.
They could argue that if someone forgot their money they would give them one free of charge or add it to their membership fee but i think that would be a unfair contract term possibly?

I'd just carry on taking your own water.

If they object, tell them that a reputable gym should know that it's dangerous not to stay hydrated when exercising, so as this wasn't in the T&Cs you signed up to, then either they let you take your own water, or they allow you to cancel your membership free of charge.
The interesting one to consider is giving notice on membership for the earliest termination date and offering to renew subject to the right to bring your own water. I wonder how they would take that?

Actually it is a petty immature restriction, and it should just be ignored.
