Of course, it may be that it has always been in the T&C's and they are just starting to implement it. Which gym is it, is it a chain?
  • It is ultimately their premises and they can place whatever conditions they want on people who want to enter them.

Unless free water is explicitly stipulated in your contract, I don't see what the gym is (legally) doing wrong

Although I understand your point, water is a necessity as is the air we breathe.

I don't like bottled water, I much prefer tap water as this is what I always had as a kid and I've grown accustomed to it.. So, to make me drink something I don't even like would be a joke.

    I'd leave!

i'd love to see the gym defend themselves if anyone collapsed in their because they didn't bring their wallet and couldn't get water. i often go to the gym wallet-less, because i have drinks with me. if they got taken off me at the entrance and i was forced into buying water from their machines (£1), i'd be up slack alley. a hard cardio and free weights session on no fluids? no thanks

the gym i use has just installed 2 more water fountains to the workout area, rather than taking them away.

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

My gym provides free water via drinking fountains.

Virgin do it too in their health clubs according to this.

Personally I'd leave the club, it's a good way for these people to learn not to con their members.

It's in the rules, but Virgin generally are lax on it.. well at my club they are.

There's 2 water fountains inside the gym area itself to which people are always refilling Evian/Highland spring/etc etc bottles up and no one bats an eye.

Same for protein shakes, people generally use the computers in the cafe drinking their own shakes.

However, think it's different when it comes to food as it's cafe serves food.
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

I think you can get round this by bringing in water from outside as long as you do not buy it!

Their rule is "bought" from outside - if you "brought" it with you it is OK!

I'd just carry on taking your own water.

If they object, tell them that a reputable gym should know that it's dangerous not to stay hydrated when exercising, so as this wasn't in the T&Cs you signed up to, then either they let you take your own water, or they allow you to cancel your membership free of charge.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If it's in bottles buy one and then refill it from home.

That's what I'd do too, then after I just wouldn't bother renewing my membership.
