Whats the daftest question you've had on an item?

I had a daft one yesterday that made no sense at all, made me wonder what was the daftest you had all had.

My question was from a UK member with a feedback of over 200. My auction is titled " Timberland womens trainers - Black & Pink - As New" the description says "US size 8.5M UK 6"

The question was - "Hi there. Are these a boys size 5 or a babies size 5? Thanks"

I can only assume they got this from the part of 8.5m - however when you look at the picture they are large and very girly! etc etc.

So whats your daftest?

'What material is your 100% cotton skirt made of?'

and (on an auction for a dress) 'will it fit me as I've been to Weightwatchers and have lost a lot of weight?'

Actually, thinking about it most of my daft questions have been on clothes, so maybe it is a difficult category.

I have sold a lot of Bollywood DVDs in the past and would always state that they are genuine DVDs. not pirated copies on the auction page. I would usually get a buyer emailing to ask "are these the real thing or pirated copies?". Grrrr! There are so many pirated DVDs around so maybe people think if they ask the seller a question about it it will help them legally if the DVD does turn out to be a copy.
  • I'm having a similar experience with an art print that I'm selling, I have a few of them and even though I state in the description that they're 100% original, I always get people asking questions about their authenticity, one guy recently asked me "where did you get it from"? Erm none of your business! Such a shame there are so many dodgy characters on eBay nowadays, people always seem to assume the worse. Is it just me, or does it always seem that when you give them the answer they supposedly want to hear, they don't bid anyway and you never hear from them again.

Had a question on an item I'm selling today, which already has bidders, from someone asking "how much do you want for it?"? Answer - whatever the winning bid amount is, that's how eBay works my friend!

I had this question sent about 15 mins before end of auction!!

"From which year is the dress? Is the European size 36 or 38? Is it close fitting or a loose fitting style? Is the dress A-lined or straight? Does the dress run big? Is it a light khaki green or a medium khaki green? Can you give me the total length, the measurement from armpit to armpit, the shoulder length from one side to the other and the measurement for waist and for hips? What is the dress precisely made of? How often does the dress have been washed? Is the khaki colr washed out? Can you send me other pics that show the dress closelyAny signs of wear, spots, marks, scoring or near it? Is it a smoke free home? How much would the shippingcosts to Germany be via Royal Air Mail? I already bought some things( coccinelle, marni...) in the U.K. without problems."

All measurments and details were in description

By the time i had read this and worked out what they wanted to know (still haven't really :rotfl:) auction was over!:rotfl:

Sent message back "post to uk only"
  • :rotfl: I don't think I've had any really crazy questions. I did once have a question for a pair of leather shoes "are they leather or suede?" I thought the answer was obvious from the photo as well as the description.
I once had loads of questions about a vintage leather jacket (would I be willing to post to Thailand, and if so how much would it cost? Could I e-mail a photo of the back of the jacket? Could I please describe and photograph any minor blemishes on the leather?) I answered all these to the best of my ability, then got only 1 bid.
  • I sold some golf balls in boxes of a dozen, was asked if this was an American or European dozen :confused: didnt know there were two types (apparently)

Oh btw Kathrynpenguin are we related? :rotfl:
  • Maybe it a metric dozen.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Was selling a pair of curtains 48x80, stated in the description that they used to hang over an set of internal doors. Got a question asking if they we 48inches long x 80 wide or the other way about....would have thought it was obvious with the door thing - they must have very small doors in their house!

I had an auction for multiple items with the postage clearly stated as "first item at £3.65 any additional items post free" this was put in three seperate areas of the auction as I figured it was a good selling point that irrespective of how many units they purchased I was prepared to absorb the cost of any additional postage over and above the initial item.

Q, How much for two and can I save on the postage costs if I buy more than one
A Two will cost you £24 (item priced at £12) plus total postage costs of £3.65 as stated in the auction.

Q, Is the postage for one or two? do I have to pay £7.30 if I buy two then?
A No as the auction says if you buy more than one item you only pay postage costs on the first item you buy, see the auction for clarity.

Q Okay I got that now, how much if I was to say buy six?
A Six would cost you £72 plus postage costs of £3.65 total to pay £75.65

Q Okay Okay now I have it, can I buy 10 but the postage needs negotiating as I just cannot justify paying £36.50 surely if I can arrange my own courier you will forego the postage charges, will that be ok?
    A Hell yes just bid

He did and even sent an email to question the total amount on paypal bill as it only showed one postage charge of £3.65

He even went on to make two more purchases of ten items but on those occasions he really did get the message either that or he thought I was a muppet and undercharging him.
