In my experience - driving examiners are a law unto themselves

Unlucky OP - best of luck next time!

What " experience " would that be?

One of failing a test ( or more )?

My instructor referred to him as the Chief Examiner, and so that's all I've ever referred to him as.

    Does it really matter?

Experience of friends, family, personal tests perhaps?!

Why are you being so judgemental?

I wasn't the one that was being " judgemental ".

I just think that with there being so many examiners out there then there will be a wide variation of results based of the multitude of different pass/fail criteria.

Also, different personalities etc, some will stick to the book, some will be more lenient.

So I do think they are a law unto themselves yes, and I agree with that post.

Inactive - can I ask you, do you think that one day the driving test itself will be simulated and a computer will mark you? (serious question)

You did not have the " Chief " examiner.

You may well have had the Senior Driving Examiner.

That's quite scary. How do you know that?
Where you the examiner at the time, or do you hide in the back of the car under a blanket?

That's true; there are various pass / fail criteria which the examiners have to judge and adhere to. This doesn't mean, however, that examiners can make it up as they feel like it. Besides, they have no incentive to.
Also, different personalities etc, some will stick to the book, some will be more lenient.
I'll assume from that comment that you've never worked in the civil service. An examiner is not allowed to have a personality that clashes with the impartiality of the test and its result. They all have to mark to the same nationwide standard. If one poster quotes an example of how they passed because the examiner was "lenient", it's because the circumstances at the time allowed that benefit of the doubt. The examiner's personality didn't come into it. In fact, that same examiner who some believe was lenient is probably also being slagged off by other instructors who just can't get their students to pass.

I know that because I know that the Chief Driving Examiner is an Admin role and he/she doesn't conduct tests.

Well, my error on my test was an automatic fail (according to my instructor and various others over the years) but I passed.. I also had about 12 minors too, so the rest of the test wasn't perfect.

So, yes, my examiner, who was the "chief examiner" or whatever you refer to them as, was lenient on me.

& no I've never worked in the civil service.
