Funding for 'second' Degree

Oh, we can check. And if you're found to have made a fraudulent application, action will be taken. Just happened recently, although they take time to unravel.
Not that this student would have got even the maintenance loan anyway.
But are you really going to check someone who did a degree over 30 years ago when the institution they studied in doesn't actually exist in name?I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I didn't recommend any course of action. I merely said that they could check and they would get found out.
If you insist on attempting to goad me into an argument, could you at least try and apply a little intelligence when doing so?0 -

I didn't recommend any course of action either, just that it does happen and some people take the risk.
I don't think that you need anyone to goad you into an argument; you manage perfectly well on your own!0 -
If there's doubt in an application, then yes.
Well if the OP was working in a profession/career that if you got in before 19xx graduate qualifications weren't needed or aren't actually needed at all you aren't going to find out are you?I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I think the OP should check what's eligible on his course and chat with the university, I took a second degree worried about how I could fund it, and found out I was entitled to all sorts of extra support, and due to the course also a full tuition fee loan!
They are really helpful at the universities because they make money if you can attend, although try and get it done as quickly as possible, it only gets busier from now until October.0 -

Thanks all apart from the little children squabbling
The OU were the first to knock me back I'd signed up and was near starting. I have spoken to both Universities I was to apply to and both say its a no go. 1 even said my HNC's were considered higher qualifications.
The other point is my first degree was done part time and was funded by the company I worked for
Funny part is as I have not been in education for over 5 years I would have had to take an interview to see whether I would qualify for the course.0 -
i don't think that you can get funding after a certain age, as there has to be the assumption that there will be enough working years after graduation, before retirement in which to pay off the loans etc...
i am fairly certain that 61 will be beyond that age, as in some professions that would leave only 1 year before enforced retirement to pay all of it off...
Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

Not quite true.Your age To qualify for a student loan to help with accommodation and living costs (called the ‘Maintenance Loan’), you need to be aged under 60 when you start your course. There’s no upper age limit on grants and the Tuition Fee Loan.
Plus, though default retirement age is currently 65, this is due to be scrapped in October 2011.0 -
thats a real shame. someone is willing to educate themselves further and the government try to prevent it. what would you do though when you had got your degree? you would be at retirement age and noone would employ you? well done though for willing to try.
Apart from certain health courses, nobody gets funding for doing a second degree anymore - it's nothing to do with his age.0
