Iphone 3G now useless due to Apple's IOS4 updates
Options
It seems to have been passed over due to the hype with the iPhone 4 faults but how many 3G users out there now have a useless product due to the IOS4 updates that Apple released?
Despite emails to Apple about the fact that phones freeze, crash, go unbearably slow, don't connect to wireless, blank out photos......the list is endles......they seem to have this ploy of shutters up and completely ignore and isolate their customers.
Has anyone here contacted Ofcom as a result of Apple basically destroying their phone? Surely I have a case of some sort with someone who regulates this industry?
Apple cannot be allowed to get away with this by simply ignoring people?
Is there anyone else that can be contacted to raise the profile of thousands of people who now have a 'brick'?

It was reported yesterday that apparantly Apple are looking into the OS4 on the 3G handsets.

I may well have misread it but I could swear that when they announced iOS4 they said it was for the 3GS and 4 only. If this were true, however, then iTunes shouldn't have prompted 3G users to upgrade their phones, so perhaps I'm just making the whole thing up!If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

That was never said. It was stated that the 3G would not get multitasking or custom wallpapers though.0 -
im sure i saw that it wasnt for the 3G as that was quite old now and getting phased out so it was only compatible with the 3G and obviously iphone 40

Like I just said, that was never said.
Apple themselves stated it was for the 3G too when it was first announced. So if you did see it, it was from somewhere/someone who didn't know what they were talking about.0 -
Yes, there are lots of reports of this being a problem. I was running the betas of iOS4 on my 3G before I sold it and it was OK, but clearly the final release of 4.0 and 4.0.1 are not working well on the 3G, and although it's possible to roll back to 3.1.3 it is quite fiddly (and can be scary - your phone may seem to go into an endless loop, requiring you to find and download a piece of software to get out of the loop and allow you to reinstall 3.1.3.
Apparently Apple are looking at this though, so some sort of fix might be along:

It must be very annoying if you're having problems though0 -
I did post a link to a "fix" earlier on.
http://www.neowin.net/news/sluggish-ios-4-performance-on-the-3g-we-have-the-fix
However I personally feel "fix" is a bit generous, "workaround" might be more appropriate.0 -
I'm confused. Over the past few years I must have come across thousands of forum threads with people moaning and groaning about this problem and that problem with every single iPhone that has ever been released. Apple release a fix, and then a fix to fix the fix, and then a fix to fix the fixed fix and so on.
So, this brings me to a question that I have been gagging to ask for so long - why do people keep buying this junk?
One of my closest friends had an iPhone 3G and had nothing but problems - freezing, slowing, dropped calls, bad reception, the list goes on and on and on! Prior to it's release he said I can't wait for my new iPhone4! Whyyyyyyyyyyyy???
If your car gave you this many problems you wouldn't buy a car from the same manufacturer again, so whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy??? Has Apple put everyone under a spell that I'm immune to?
Sorry, rant over

It's a question of numbers. You've read thousands of posts, but there are millions of iPhone users, the vast majority of whom are not having problems (they're actually using their iPhones rather than posting about them on websites). I had a 3G for 2 years and it was the best phone I've ever had. My iPhone 4 is even better.
Other people's experiences may vary, but I doubt so many people would be buying iPhones if everyone thought they were junk.0
