Income Support and Benefits eligibility

Hope someone can help.

If i work 16 hours per week and earn 13,500 per year, would i still be eligible for income support?

I have less that 5k in savings and am a sinle parent living in a home with a hefty mortgage still to pay.

Advice appreciated

Thank you

No. Income support is for single parents who do not work and have children under the age of 7

You can do some work and get Income Support. The hours have to be under 16 and of course it will then depend on your earnings.

If you work 16 hours per week you would no longer be entitled to IS however you will be entitled to WTC.

Why not work 32 hours for £27k and look into cheap child care?

at the moment i get child tax credits because ive not started the job yet. i want to spend as much time at home with my very young baby rather than having to use child care.

so if i work less than 16 hours will i be entitled to income support? Im very new to applying for benefits so please excuse my ignorance.

It depends on how much you earn to whether you can claim IS when working less than 16 hours.

If you work under 16 hours, you will get to keep the first £20 before it affects your IS, then IS will deduct pound for pound after that from your IS.

If you are earning £13.5K per year then the answer is no.

That is not a shabby wage for 16 hours a week.
