Somebody told me there was one in the St Ann's Square branch off Deansgate. I don't bank with HSBC so haven't verified this for myself.

Yes I use this one often.

  • Hi - I've just come across a website that allows you to search for bank coin deposit machines using a postcode - perhaps of interest to people following this thread? It looks reasonably legit - I'll try one in London later this week.

EDIT. Ah first post fail! I can't post links. Oh well, if you google search 'cashincoins' it should be your first hit.

It seems to be a worthy attempt by an individual to provide a valuable service. However, it appears to rely on site visitors to provide information. Its comments section has been overrun by spammers.

It's a pity that banks don't think it is worth providing this up-to-date information on their own web sites.

Two HSBC branches that I have posted in this thread do not appear on the cashincoins site.

    • Croydon - Wellesley Road
    • "Belgravia" The Peak, 333 Vauxhall Bridge Road, Victoria, London, SW1V 1EJ
So (unless the facilities have been removed since my last branch visits) the site seems at least a few years out of date.

"Turn your coins into cash"? Coins are already cash.

"Turn your coins into notes"? As stated elsewhere on the site (unlike Metrobank) HSBC, NatWest and Barclays only allow one to deposit coins into ones account. Granted the value could then be withdrawn as notes if required.

HSBC seem to be getting ready to retire their cash counting machines.

About 6 months ago, they covered up the card slot with what looked like a HSBC business card.

Since the new year, the branches I used to visit are now powered down with a "Not in use" sticker on the screen.

So now I count my change and hand it into the local newsagent in exchange for goods and notes. They seem quite happy about it.
