  • quick Qn re. the HSBC machines: do you have to sort your coins into 1ps, 2ps etc first or can you just chuck 'em all in at once?

    You throw them all in and the machine sorts/counts them.

    Yes - you have to use them to pay money in to your account. They are not coin changing machines, they are deposit machines.

    Do these still exist? I went into my local HSBC branch earlier and asked where the nearest one was, and I was told that there aren't any... I then called First Direct who are usually helpful but also said they're aren't any...

    I concluded that they must have removed them? Has anyone used one recently?

    I live in London.

    I didn't necessarily want to know where they are, but whether I've been given totally the wrong information by the staff in the HSBC branch (and first direct) today or not.

    So there is still at least one (Cannon Street). That's not impossible to get to for me but would suggest that there might still be others around!
