Recordable freeview hd boxes

Hi all,
I am begrudging paying sky my £37 a month. I have phone, internet and sky tv with them and I never ever use the phone as I have excellent mobile phone rates (friends and family) so basically I'm paying for the sky+ as internet we can get elsewhere.

So, what I'd like to do is buy a recordable freeview hd box, well if the hd part of it is too expensive then just the normal recordable freeview box. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what to go for. I've spent the morning looking on amazon and reevoo and am still none the wiser!!! I am NOT a technohead so technical abbreviations like PVR (of which I've still got no idea what it is) are waaaaayyy over my head, so go easy on me!!! Please if anyone can help my befuddled brain in any way I'd really appreciate it :j

Silly question but do you get Freeview?

Humax boxes regularly come up as the best to buy.

    No problem.

As you have Sky at present you could always cancel and go down the Freesat route as well

I've been told that if you want to use the sky box as a recordable device you still have to have the basic package which is £10 a month. Basically I want to not pay sky, I'd rather have a freeview recordable box.

Which is why I said you could go down the Freesat road- nothing to do with Sky at all.

  • There are a few Freeview HD PVR's coming out now. Prices start around £250.

If you went the Freesat route as mentioned above, the box is just a straight swap with the old Sky box. Obviously there's the initial outlay, but then there's no further payments. The box of choice is the Humax Foxsat HDR, currently from £230 up.
