OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 21st July 2010

Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for Wed 21st July. 2010. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
[*]As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
[*]When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
[*]Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just fine

Well it has been rather a warm night, and due to not drinking awake bright and early, need to do some diagnostic tests on the laptop so thought would post before in case I lose it later,
Nothing much else to report, since my post last night. last one yesterday and first one today
I do have a reasonable ironing pile to attack, and may start that in a while before the heat of the day;). Washing is reasonably up to date, Went shopping yesterday, more looking that buying really, then had to go in the pool to recover.
Looking around think a little tidy up would not go amiss, so will have a go once DH emerges, he does need more sleep than I do (or was it the drink) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Welcome and hello to any newbies :hello:
Have a great day everyone, and  to our MIA's
Take care - DG

Good morning.
My kitchen units start going in today. My fridge is already there, and it's great. I will soon be back on the OS wagon. I have also started the mountain of cleaning up/washing etc that all the building work has caused. There may be a trip to the tip today to get rid of some of the rubbish.
Take care all of you0 -
Hi Donny-Gal and all who follow.
Well, it looks as if we are in for another good day here. Hope the weather is improving for you all in the UK; I see from the news that there has been flash-flooding in some areas. What contrary weather the world is having at the moment.
Today will be spent helping DH to batten our newly-insulated ceiling in one of the bedrooms that has been created in the attic, then he can plasterboard it, then plaster the ceiling and all the walls. All this has to be done before Tuesday, when DS1 and his family come to stay! DH assures me that it will be done in time! We also need to move the computer from the dining room into the office (which is a spare bedroom at the moment), so there will be a lot of humping and dumping over the next few days! The half-finished kitchen has been put on hold because the bedroom is more urgent at the moment.
Dinner today will be tarragon chicken, new potatoes, and salad. I'll prep it all early to get a head start. I've been leaving DH in charge of puddings - he's been making some lovely fruit salads lately.
Well, I'm still having some computer problems, the latest one being that I've lost my Yahoo Messenger. I have no idea why; I can't even download a new one. I've contacted Yahoo twice so far but they haven't replied, despite saying that they will get back to you within 24 hours - yeah, right. If I don't manage to get an account up and running by the end of the month, I'll lose an online job I do. Fingers crossed that they'll reply over the next day or two.
Well, I'd better go through the rigmarole of opening all the shutters - it's such a chore; I'd love to get some electronic ones!
Hope you all have a great day.

Morning all
I'm so relieved, my eyesight seems to have returned to normal after yesterday, of course the 'child' 6ft 1 & about 18 stone, won't be punished as it's nearly the holidays. Roll on Friday!!!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
Bright and beautiful day here, unfortunatly I am off to work, will have a tidy round before I go, everything had a good clean yesterday, so not too bad.
Omlette for tea tonight, with bread and butter for the others, and salad for me, my weight loss has slowed right down, seems to be about a 1lb a week, but at least it is coming off, I need to loose 8lb to be my ideal weight, so am slowly getting there. Jackie G well done to you xx
Thanks for the good wishes re little dog, the vet is happy to leave her op for a little while longer, she has also given her some medicine, because she is producing milk, bless her, she thinks her squeeky is her baby, and keeps making nests for it.
Lamb breast for tea last night, which was delish, it was a sainsburys value one, and very tasty too.
Ok better get on, Happy Birthday to those celebrating, and good luck to Flutterby xx0 -
Good morning everyone ,what a sticky humid night ,very uncomfortable and I seemed to have just dozed for most of the night .I shall probably catch up whilst reading the back of my eyelids later today.School run this morning with my three little grandsons ,Jack (10) has a school trip to Broadstairs today so I hope he has a good day.My eldest DD breaks up today from her school job and is off to Lanzarote tomorrow morning for a week with her OH and DD.her son Danny is still toiling away at Elstree in the film unit and it will be their first holiday without him.Still danny is a happy bunny and I daresay he will be still popping his head around the door for sausage rolls and cake from Granny's tins.
After I have dropped the boys off it will be back home for me and a tidy up of my crafting stuff off the dining room table as I want to get things put away as I have visitors coming next week so must have a grand clear-up this week.No shopping to get I will do that tomorrow ,I have cut right back on my shopping days now and only go around once a week if I can nd then only buy absolute necessities.just over three weeks till my holidays and I am really looking forward to them.
hope everyone has a good day another week halfway gone already
take care all and <<hugs>> to those who are feeling down and blue

Hester, what happened? I must have missed your post on this. Doesn't sound right if you've been hurt and pupil goes unpunished.
Lovely day here again. Washing on line and veggies all watered. Will take DH tea soon. Have hair appt today. Need to get some church-related paperwork sorted today, then plan to do some sewing - for once house os reasonably clean and tidy!
Bought new scales the other day. Now really do have to admit that I've gained yet more weight, so began seriously to cut back again yesterday. I know I eat portions that are just too big! Also, am too frequently snacking (on bread and cheese - very slimming!!!) Why is it that as soon as I start to try to cut down I can think of nothing else but food and eating - it's just not fair!
Oh well, must get the kettle on. Hope you all enjoy today whatever you have planned. Take care!Resolution:

Morning all, well it's clammy again here and looks like it will rain soon. Meeting my sisters friend and her little twins for lunch today. They are 4 and have been counting the sleeps to seeing me! It's nice to be bonny and well liked, as my mum says!
Tea will be late tonight as I'm going to a team meeeting at my new job after my own work so just some HM Pasta sauce for me. House all clean and tidy and just stripped bed as my friend is staying tomorrow night. i'll leave it to air today and put the fresh one on tonight after I've given it an iron (I know, I know, it's like an illness!) Have good days all and XXX'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
Thought I'd visit before dashing off to that place that pays me every month
Hester - what happened? I haven't peeped at your blog yet....
Cranky - good luck with the kitchen rebuid, hope you & the house elf are doing ok?
Flutterby - good luck for today hun, all fingers are crossed (which may take minute-taking & typing a bit difficult!)
Need to go & investigate why my Alfa's cruise control switched itself off when the ABS kicked in last night - then again I was driving through about 3 inches of standing water on the M6 at 70mph when it started to aquaplane  so that may have something to do with itOh well, it's an excuse to ring the dealers & speak to the very nice chap who sold me the car!
Work is a bit mad - lots of shuffling about of bosses as the one at the top of our particular tree leaves & mine goes up, also lost a member of our team due to budget cuts so more work for people I don't really know very wellOh well, at least they are still paying me
OH is away until Friday night, so catering for me will be easy - whatever is in the fridge or peanut butter / marmite on granary toast
Ironing pile is reasonably sized - cleared it all when waiting for DS1 & GF to appear on Sunday morning watching the golfJust rescued a load from the washer so will put that on the airer before dashing off.
Need to make a few wedding-related calls today, plans are progressing nicelyWe've got a bit of a theme going, related to where we live, which includes transport, favours & table names - no prize for guessing
Will be back later to catch up - have a good day all, and  to those lurking or MIA
Floss :hello:0 -
Good Morning All
Hester - I like that advert on TV the one that has the music schools out for summer & all the teachers are racing out of school :rotfl:that'll be you come Friday.
Weather bright but fresher here today :j DS has his last ever day at Junior School today, sure there will be some tears later. Will go up the school at finishing time - its quite emotional.
Just about to put the beef brisket for tonights dinner in the slow cooker, other plans are - some office work, clean bathrooms & pop into little town for some bits. DS has boxing tonight & after that I need to go into work to download the digital tachograph so will be a late one.
Nothing else to report, other than need to count up my tesco clubcard vouchers and sort out some activities for the holidays.
Best get going, have a great day.x0 -
Morning All ,
Hester - what happened?!
Flutterby - good luck for today chick you can do it! xx
JackieO - tell your DD to prepare for a bumpy flight if she's going to Lanzarote  DH took me there in Feb and I now cannot contemplate getting on a plane ever again the turbulence was so bad _pale_
JackieG - congrats on your weight loss - you go girl!
Work is still mental but I spoke to my boss about my overtime and he's letting me add it to my annual leave :j That's how bad it is folks - I don't even want the money I just don't want to be here :rotfl:
Anyhow, tea tonight is going to be chilli with rice and wraps, very filling for DH and should be plenty leftover for his lunch tomorrow as I have a half day and am meeting SD1 for lunch and a bit of shoppingreally looking forward to it as I haven't seen much of her since she got back from Cyprus.
Have to go, hugs to all xxSometimes that mountain you've been climbing is just a grain of sand,
