Our hotel don't do corkage :( but there house wine is only £8.95 per bottle so providng 2 bottles per table (8 guests with at least 2 under 18)

The package we have includes bucks fizz welcome drink I'm just debating. Wether to giv it people after ceremony while have pics taken/rm set up or for the toast because I realised goin to have to provide the 15 under 18s with something if do after ceremony which means £15 on oj that I'm worried won't get drunk!!!!

Our drinks package is £11 per head and is unlimited. So we're getting a drinks reception with Winter Pimms and Prosecco (plus oj for non-alcohol drinkers), red, White and rose wine with the meal and prosecco for the toast. What they do is count up all the bottles afterwards, and if it works out as cheaper than £11 per head then we pay the lower price but if it's more then we just pay £11 per head. Then after the meal it'll be a pay bar.

We've put £250 behind the bar for a welcome drink. We wanted people to be able to chose as we never enjoy the welcome drinks at weddings :) We've also told them to bill us if it goes over £250, but we trust our mates to only get one drink :)

I'm doing this for the meal as there will be a few that wont drink wine.

I'd like pommegranate or cranberry and champagne in a bucks fizz kinda way for a welcome drink. The hotel is set out so that you go through the front doors and are in the corridor/bottom of the stairs there is a lounge to the left and to the right through one of the lounges is where we will eat and also the bar, I don't really want people traipsing through there while we're off getting our pics taken. OH is adamant that they shouldn't get a free drink when they get a free meal too.
Not sure about canapes, I'd like something that can be left on the table rather than offered to people, plus I think we get married at 2pm and will be eating around 4pm so it won't be too late.
I've 5 guests over 70 and I don't want them overfacing with booze and food and about 5 guests that could probably drink the days supply of alcohol. I need to get a nice balance

see, i want welcome drink but h2b is adamant we won't

i said about utting money behid the bar and thee is only one person who might take the mick with it but over 50% of our guests do not drink alcohol so about 25-30 beer/wine/spirit (estimating £5/h for all the guests to average it out for 55 adults and 20 kids)) makes it under 400 whichi would be happy to pay but h2b isn't so will have to see. i was hoping his parent might pay for that but i don't really want to ask ad they haven't offered so i am budgeting for it myself but it is only an extra and f we don't have money, it won't be offered.

my venue actually advised against it specifically cos people might take the mick but although wine is included with the meal, soft drink are not so i need to kep that in mind also. **sigh**

We're having a welcome drink, only because we're getting them half price because they mucked us about in the past!

Not sure what we're going to choose yet, but they won't cost us over £100 as we're only having 40 to the day.

Doesn't that contravene the new legislaion changes? Naughty!

I have a wholesale card so I'm going to get cava from there, even with £7.50 corkage it's still a few quid cheaper than the hotel, will tackle OH later, it wasn't a very good time to be talking about the wedding earlier this week as he was rather stressed :D

We are having champagne, pimms and elderflower cordial as our welcome drinks, we had this as a part of a package deal though. Anyone who wants anything else, will have to buy it themselves at the bar. Have to say though that we checked the prices of the drinks at the bar as it's unfair on your guests if they are stupid money.

What's elderflower cordial like? My venue have offered shloer as an alternative to wine but I'm a bit worried it'll be like some of the branded soft drinks which just taste of sugar. MIL2b has said she drinks elderflower and she is the main non drinker I'd rather get something that she would want.

Sorry for dragging the thread on, it's weird having to consider everyone else and I'll drink anything :rotfl:

I think Elderflower cordial is nice, I have it with soda water usually, for a bit of fizz but you can have it with plain water, or with lemonade if you want it a bit sweeter. It's very refreshing and not very sugary.
Don't think I've ever had Shloer, but could you get a small bottle from a supermarket to try it?
