I sent my stamps to the SSPCA the other day :) Thanks for that website purplestar1uk - I'll work through them all with the stamps I collect!
  • Thankyou to everyone that's helped so far. I have managed to collect quite a lot due to family and friends. Will have to take a drive over next week. :)

My local Cat's Protection League has a shop where they collect stamps, otherwise I'd send mine to you. I like to help animal charities as much as possbile, especially those that struggle for funds.

In the area I used to live in, one of the major supermarkets (Safeway), used to have a large bin where you could donate pet food to help a small animal welfare organisation. Sadly there is nothing like that in this area, but I wonder if it is an idea your local SSPCA could try to develop. I was always extra generous when pet food was on special offer, as I'm sure other people were too.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Thanks for the idea cattie,
I think it would be a great idea if the large supermarkets would help out local charities like the S.S.P.C.A. but they don't seem interested. There is a woman in the town next to us who feeds the local swans, she's done this for over 20 years and she gets no help from the local supermarkets. She pays full price for the bread she buys, which I think is disgraceful. The population of swans has soared in that time. I am not sure how many there would be without her devotion.

Thanks again to all who have helped so far. I was in about a month ago and they were delighted with the amount of stamps they were receiving. :)

Excellent stuff, I have a couple of envelopes full of stamps and was wondering who I could send them to - will post them along to the S.S.P.C.A tomorrow from work. They must have received a fair few from fellow MSE's going by this thread - it would be great to have some feedback from them to find out how much their stamp collection has been expanded by your appeal -well done, it's amazing what can happen when word gets around!

I have a pile of stamps and usually try to find an animal organisation to send them to - how is this society doing, are they in urgent need of stamps? If its not so desparate now I'll send them locally....also can you tell me a bit about them? I could maybe add them to my website - I've got an animal section.

Well I am ashamed at how often I come back to this thread, sorry! I did go in a few days ago with a huge envelope full of stamps and was told they were receiving stamps from all over Britain :) They really are delighted and wanted me to thank everyone for their generosity. At the moment they are being well supported, so long may that last. I know they have had some really hard times in the past. I am always amazed that they are nearly always full with stray and deserted animals. I will never understand why people take on an animal and then either abuse or dump it when they have grown tired of the responsibility.
    Thanks again,

If it's any good I collect postcards but not the stamps. Is it best if I donate the full thing or just the stamp? (I've steamed things open (and off) before - but not stamps ;))

    Any advice helps....
