Excel spreadsheet for Windows

I'm after a copy of Excel - any hints at getting it at the lowest price? I've searched a few places but best so far is around £160.

If anyone in the family is a student or works in education worth chekcing out educational discounts. Alternative is OpenOffice - free to download or costs a few quid for a CD from several sources.

There are definitely educational discounts but it's still not cheap.

If you're not sharing the resulting files with anyone or also opening them with Excel somewhere else, then OpenOffice is good - it can be a bit 'quirky' if you open the same file using both MS Excel and OS Calc. Not at the same time, but the display goes a bit weird if you open it first with OS and then with MS ...

it's a great excel alternative - the only downside i've had with it is that martin's money planner doesn't work with it :(

If you just need a spreadsheet (Excel or Open Office) then you can download one for free on the Consumer Action Group website (for claiming back bank charges). You'll need to register, and select Forums and then if you go to templates you can pick it out from there.

    It's www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk.

Its all good guys - I got a new job yesterday and I told them I'm going to scratch up on my Excel before I start - lo and behold they've said that they will provide a copy of Microsoft Office for me so I can get up to speed with all of it before I start
