It is called sniping.
You could just place your highest bid now and see if you win.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Hi Vicker...in real auctions, you can leave a bid with the auctioneer or his clerk...must be something similar with EBAY.0

vicker wrote:I know websites exist which place automatic bids for you...but as I don't know what this is called I can't do a search for it, so sorry if this has been asked lots of times before.
So please can people point me to some good websites which will do the staying up until 3am for me?
Thanks.
The best way is to log in on your mobile,

i can personally recommend auctionstealer.
free and very reliable.0 -
I set up with auction stealer earlier in the day and tried it on a small item I wanted. I won!!!!!
Will now trust it to do the big shop that finishes at 7am tomorrow.
Thank you all.0 -
There is 1 simple way, bid your maximum bid that you want to pay. If someone outbids you, you won't care because it went for more than you can pay. Forget sniping, MAXIMUM is the answer.0

And don't forget to make sure you include the postage in your calculations for your maximum bid.cafenervosa wrote:There is 1 simple way, bid your maximum bid that you want to pay. I occasionally use Auctionstealer. When I used it to snipe bid (while I was out) on the third of four identical lots, I got mine for £16.50 when the other 3 all went for over £20. I think bidding early does tend to encourage other bidders!0
