KNOW WE ARE GOING TO BE LATE FOR OUR FLIGHT, HELP!! Ryainair Edinburgh

Options
Dear all,

We got our flight times wrong :( very stupid I know and I am a meticulous planner (tho' I could have sworn that I copied and pasted the right info!). At least we know now and not tomorrow!

Our flight is at 3.40pm tomorrow at Edinburgh Airport and we get off the train, all being well at 1.40pm. We have booked a taxi to wait and take us straight to the airport, so if we are in good time we will arrive at 2.15, worse time is around 2.30, half an hour before baggage closes and 50 mins before boarding closes.

I noticed that 25% of Ryanair's flights were late last week, phew so maybe God would be kind and make ours late!

Any advice from recent travelers from this airport or those who can advise would be much appreciated!!

I have tried to ring the airport or Ryanair desk to let them know in advance we may be late but were told we were wasting our time doing that.

Thank you so very much,

Inshallah!

I dont think you should rely on those figures!

I had delays on flights, most have been less than 10 minutes.

Besides you need to check in that important ( ie checked in before XX)

Cant you just get an earlier train and reschedule the cab?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...

If you are checked in online and only have either hand baggage or previously agreed and paid for hold baggage (for drop off) you should be OK, if not forget it. Even if the plane is late check in closes at the appointed time.

If you are arriving with 30 mins baggage etc to spare you should be fine. Edinburgh have just opened up their new Security Search area - a lot bigger than their old one so you should be able to 'fly' through (sorry for the poor poor pun). So your delays inside the airport should be minimal.

If the train you are on goes through to Haymarket station it's better to stay on till then rather than get off at Waverley. That cuts out the traffic in Edinburgh city centre.

As has been said 100% of the flights could be 2hrs late but that wont help you by 1 minute as the checkin still closes on time.

2hrs from train to plane sounds too tight to me.

Where is the train from and why cant you get an earlier one?

    Thanks so much everyone

Train is from Manchester with one change (4hrs 11mins) costs £30 each to change and my friend in the group told me she has absolutely NO money so even tho' I can afford it she can't. Not helpful. It only says journey to Edinburgh so no idea about Haymarket. Will ask when we get to station tomorrow, just in case.

We have checked in online and included our one suitcase so all that is sorted. We are all UK nationals. Great news about new security bit opening up, it gives me some hope as if we don't make this flight, there isn't another for a week... Taxi people have been great, shouldn't be any roadworks and will be at dinner and not morn or rush hour thankfully!

At least we know, thanks to you, we HAVE to make check in by 3.20. I may have to ask if we can move down any queues if people who are on time will be kind enough to help us out.

    Thanks again!

What? You won't be in a check in queue if you've checked in online. The only queue could be security. I know it has been said security has been bigger at EDI, but perhaps they have a security fast track. I know Newcastle does and you pay a couple of pounds to jump the entire queue. It's only useful if there's a load of people if there's a load of flights at a similar time, or if you're really late.

You have to queue up at the check-in desks to use the baggage drop-off. With Ryanair on-line check-in only saves time if you do not have hold baggage.

    oh, my apologies:p

Last time I had baggage to use the drop off, there was 2 of us. We went in a line each as we expected one to end up going quicker (e.g. when people start trying to reduce weight) so we when he got there first, I just crossed from my line to his.

Edinburgh Haymarket & Edinburgh Waverley are part of the same group. There's no problem getting off the train at either

There's two possible routes from Manchester - via York or via Carlisle.

If the latter then the train stops at Haymarket a few minutes before it reaches Edinburgh Waverley, there are taxis there for the trip to the airport

If the former then the odds are that that the train terminates at Edinburgh Waverley so you'll have no choice in the matter. If the train travels on to Glasgow or Aberdeen then it will stop at Haymarket a few minutes after Edinburgh Waverley

BTW Ryanair closes it's checkin & bag drop 40 minutes before the SCHEDULED time of departure so it doesn't matter how late the flight is
