Not necessarily.
You can get tested a month prior to the expiry date, and on passing, the new expiry date would be 12 months on from the previous expiry date (ie not a year from the day it was tested)
If you got the last one done after the previous one expired, then it would last exactly one year from the day it was tested. (eg tested 19/7/09, expires 18/7/10)0 -

Yes unless the last one was before the expiry of the one before………
MOT run out today, pass test tomorrow, new MOT runs out in 52 weeks
MOT runs out in two weeks, pass test tomorrow, new MOT runs out in 54 weeks
MOT runs out in four weeks, pass test tomorrow, new MOT runs out in 56 weeks0 -
I think it was 16th July 2009, just read somewhere you have a week after 12 months - right or wrong?? If so I am just ok but knowing my luck....Wins 2010 (holiday pretty please!): Jan:BlueReefAquariumTicket!Feb: TottenhamTeamMascotExperience!Mar: AvonPerfume£100YatesbartabAltonTowersbreak!Apr: - May: BicSoleilRazor June:2OdeonTickets BicRazorAgainHippHamperHamper July:HairAwards2010 Products!Aug:Nothing Sep: Nothing:( Oct: DailyMail£250!0

On a different but related topic, I know the maximum extra you can get is a month but what happens if I get it tested 6 months early?
Say MOT runs out next Jan and I get it tested tomorrow, does the new one expire 20th July or 20th August?0 -

19 august as I understand it, only 13months max.0 -
You are making this sound difficult!
Your MOT certificate will have a date on it, once this date has passed you cannot use the car on a public road*. There is no 7 day grace period.
You may get the car tested 30 days prior to the existing certificate's expiration date, the new MOT certificate will then run for another 12 months from the previous expiration date.

How about this then, I was a hackney taxi driver with a new vehicle, but according to my local council I had to get an mot from a year old instead of the standard 3 years, so if it had failed its mot in those first 3 years is it legal to drive as a normal car ?Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

Newbie007 is wrong.
In those circs, the cert would expire at midnight on 19/7/2011.0 -
