MOT Epxiration?

Hi,
Yet another question.... With MOT's I thought that basically we had to get it done before the tax expires which is at the end of this month, we usually MOT around this date 19th but if we wait another week are we still legally driving it??

Check your current MOT certificate that will have the date on it. They don't run from month end like your tax but you can get it done in advance and not lose any time on it
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

If the MOT has expired, you can't legally use the car on the public roads, other than to drive it to an MOT centre for a pre-booked MOT test.

If your MOT expires between now and the month end, then after it has expired you won't be legally driving.

And if you don't get an MOT pass before you attempt to buy your new tax, then you won't be able to tax it.

as long as you have the logbook http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECSID-Internet-Status-Request.jsp will tell you when the MOT ran (or hopefully runs) out

If the MOT certificate hasn't expired, then you are fine (assuming that the car is in general road worthy condition).

If the MOT has expired, you can only use the vehicle to drive it to the pre-booked test using a direct route (ie, you can't call to the shops on the way there).

With your certificate, you will have got a sticker to affix to your windscreen. This will also have the expiration date on it.

If it's expired, then having a test booked on Wednesday won't do you any good if you are stopped! Don't drive it till you go to the test on Wednesday.

Does the test expire exactly a year after your last one?

Lost MOT & logbook, you're worse than me!!

I'm pretty sure MOT garages can get the info from just the reg number so it might be worth a call to the place you've booked it in at and get them to tell you if it has run out already
