Well, as said several times before, these are just trails, and not "adverts" per se.

But if you regard them as commercials, then you're welcome to your opinion.

    -rapido

They are trailers, and the point of a trailer is to advertise a film/programme etc. ergo they are advertisements.

But then almost anything is an "advertisement", I stated before.

In broadcasting, trailers are NOT referred to as "advertisements", that word refers to commercial spots.

    -rapido

They are advertising a program, therefore they are advertisements, what they are promoting is irrelevant.

It looks as though ITV is about to go for the worst of both worlds

    Pay TV and commercials http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10848396

As I said before, you are quite entitled to your personal opinion as to what is or is not an advert.

    However trails are not advertisements.

The term "advertisement" ONLY refers to paid commercial spots.

Anything else is "sponsorship", "promos", "trailers", "cross promotion", "plugs", "product placement" etc.

    -rapido

    Which all comes under "advertising".

    Not exactly correct.

"Sponsorship" and "product placement" are types of "advertising" but are not "advertisements", for example.

"Promos" and "trails" are neither advertising nor advertisements.

    -rapido

to promote is effectively advertising, and a trailer is certainly advertising. i see your point with "paid commercial slots" but which ever way you colour it, it is all advertising. To cut a long story short, you could call it my perception or my opinion. But it is advertising.

I would prefer to have the adverts and not pay

Ah but with Sky you pay a subscription (about 50% higher than the license fee). and have adverts interrupting programs.

ITV2,3and 4 HD have just been launched as subscription only. Will they be ad free?
Do not be fooled into believing that this society cannot be made fairer because hard work isn't necessarily all it takes.
