I think the licence fee is cracking value for money. With the television, radio and web pages, the BBC keeps me entertained and informed in so many ways.
I disagree with advertising because it induces me to spend money on things I don't need but think I want.
I disagree with Sky because I don't think Rupert Murdoch should be interfering in British politics. Murdoch is an American citizen so let him go an play in their political sandpit! I would also be annoyed by the adverts on Sky because I am paying for them! The only thing in Sky's favour is they do pretty good dramatisations of the discworld novels.

So I vote for leaving the licence fee alone.

The licence fee covers much much more, including radio and the internet.

So why should we pay for that to watch tv?

Though I have to admit I NEVER watch any of the garbage channels that screen ads. So I am limited to the BBC, and that is why I would gladly pay double not to have them on the BBC.
ITV and SKY are for morons.

the attitude that drove the british empire! HURRAH!!

Because it is part of what he BBC does?
You can watch programmes on the internet?
Because you would need to bring back the radio licence?

Hahaha thank you :) you've made my morning. Comments sections on newspaper websites are absolutely priceless. The Daily Mail regularly has some class opinions on theirs too.

    loved the article too :)

    I particularly liked this ...

Elstein for the Telegraph ... "Given that of the 25.459m licences in issue 4.008m were paid for by the government, on behalf of exempted over-75-year-olds, and that 68 per cent of the remainder paid by direct debit, the true evasion rate was much higher than 5.2 per cent."

Comment in reply ... You have supported your argument by removing from your calculation all those who pay by Direct Debit. But why stop there? If you remove everybody who pays by any means you can claim there's a 100% evasion rate. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Mind you...
  • I have read several postings to this forum and I cannot believe that even one has supported BBC. The only reason can be that they are sports fans! I am a sports fan, but do not like it "shoved down my throat" such as 12 hours on Saturday, at least, and a similar amount on Sunday. This blanket coverage of sport on BBC1 & 2 has gone on for most of the year. If I had the choice I would be prepared to pay about £50 per year for the licence, that is not to say I would watch 1/3 of all programmes because most of them are repeated the next day. No one can argue against this, just check the listings for yourselves and you must agree with me BBC Sport is a disgrace! It should be financed seperately or put it all on BBC3 as there is never anything on that channel.
Also people say they do not want advertising on BBC, do they shut their eyes at the end of EVERY programme whilst BBC joyfully advertise themselves!

    My comments in red.

Can you explain what you mean by a disgrace?
