Ebay Item Not Recieved....confused by this...

Oh....I did it as I was advised to on this....am I best scrapping one claim then (say on ebay and state that i've closed it because I have a duplicate claim on paypal or vice versa) or just leaving it and keeping my fingers crossed?
Do not close any claim. If you have 2 open normally the paypal one automatically closes. If you do have problems phone them.
You are only meant to have one claim either a PP or an ebay one not two on the same transaction0 -
Phone who sorry? Ebay or Paypal? Just explain to them that I thought I was doing the right thing and made a mistake?0

Poor Fluffy. eBay need to sort these procedures out properly - it's unnecessarily complicated. I'm not someone to get wound up about eBay, there's more important things for me to worry about, but they do have some arcane and strange procedures and it's only complicated by not having a Paypal style system fully integrated into the site but choosing to use a third party (even one owned by the same company) to be their main payments provider.
I hope you get your money back. Please come back here and keep us abreast of the situation."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Thanks, it baffles me though. They can be linked well enough to cancel the other when one is cancelled yet they can't be linked well enough for one to be automatically wiped when one makes a decision. Erm, what?!
Also, how can that wipe out a simple and justifable claim for a refund? It beggars belief. It's like saying 'Yeah, you paid and yeah you didn't get the item, but because you've been stuck for 6 weeks and tried to get the matter resolved quicker, then you're getting nothing.'
Madness.

It's because they each assume the other is working on the case, and they don't want people to think they are able to "double dip" and get two refunds instead of only one.
People on the official boards are mostly sellers, and they complain eBay sometimes settle disputes too quickly without give them time to have their say, or input tracking details or whatever, so it seems to be difficult to balance the needs of buyers, which should always IMO take priority given that sellers mainly have responsibilities but get a lot of financial reward out of selling, and the needs of sellers to feel protected from arbitrary, spurious or fraudulent disputes. The double dispute system is less than a year old - I stopped buying and selling on eBay for a year or so and came back recently to find the system had got ten times as complicated while I'd been away - and still has a lot of issues to be ironed out.
One of these days they'll do it, but it's a shame you've got caught up in the disorder of the first year or so. We're always here to help though, and the people on the official forums don't (always) bite, so it may be worth also having a read there for a bit."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Thanks....that makes sense. One thing I've just thought on about though is that the paypal one (where the seller hasn't responded at all yet) says they have until 2nd August to respond before they review the case....now the ebay one doesn't give me any sort of insight into what happens next because the seller put up a one-sentance answer in response. The expiry date says 16th August though, so I'd 'guess' this is when this would be looked into? Just wondering whether paypal could review and hopefulyl refund and I can just tell ebay that it's been sorted by paypal....perhaps.0

With the Paypal one, the seller will have an opportunity to add tracking. If they fail to do this or put in a false number, you can ring Paypal (on 2 Aug if they fail to do add tracking, immediately if they give a false one). Paypal will then close the case in your favour, but they sometimes need a prod to do this.0
