Ebay Item Not Recieved....confused by this...

Hi all, I purchased an item through ebay around a month ago which hasn't been recieved. The seller sent this by 1st class post, we discussed this and the last message from the seller said the following:

It appears that Royal Mail must have lost the package. We will contact the Royal Mail eBay team on Monday to raise a claim for the loss and get a replacement out to you.

I then hadn't heard anything for a week so opened a case with ebay. The seller has responded with the following:

"The item was shipped to the buyer by Royal Mail 1st class mail. We have proof of dispatch in the form a receipt from the post office."

What does this mean? They're talking about a reciept from when they gave the item in aren't they? That doesn't mean I've received the item does it? Otherwise, why have they said what they did in the first message above? I'm confused....I thought you couldn't trace any item with 1st class post beyond when it is handed into the post office?! :undecided

Just escalate the claim for ebay to resolve it. They can't prove delivery and you will be refunded. The seller is just trying it on or is a muppet as they need to prove delivery which proof of posting isn't.

Yeah, the case is open. I don't dispute that the seller dispatched the item and trust them on that front but that doesn't clear them does it? I'm just concerned that ebay will find in their favour and I'll lose out on both ways.

Have you escalated the case though? If not do so. You wont lose out the seller has to prove delivery which they cant

Respond to the message saying item not recieved have contacted seller on xx/xx/xxand other dates if app - Basically the seller used 1st class post, got proof of purchase, and the item has gone astray in the Royal Mail system, for them to get their money back, they have wait (think?) 15 days then they haveto fill in a form send it to Plymouth wait for the Royal Mail to check it out, then they get a refund,

Basically the seller is trying to keep you dangleing till they get their payment back from the Post Office.

    - Back to where you stand

Reply to the ebay one - then if you payed by Paypal escalute the claim to them, just similar to the ebay one, (but as I think with a bit more clout), you may have to repeat the situation again, they paypal will contact the seller. once they'd reviewed the info Paypal will refund you the money back to your paypal account x

Hi all, I'm a bit lost to how I escalate a case on ebay. I can respond to the what the seller has put but it states ''Please provide detailed information in your response. All responses may be viewed by eBay Customer Support.'' - is this the same thing or do I have to do something seperate to this?

Hi, I've sent a reply on ebay and then opened a paypal claim....3 days passed and no response. I've escalated the claim to ebay and three days have passed again and still nothing. The paypal thing says it'll be another week before they can review it. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? It's been around 6 weeks now and seemingly the seller is just digging their heels in and leaving it as late as possible to just refund or even send an alternative as they promised.

Ouch. You need to keep to one or the other, as if both are opened for the same item, it confuses the people dealing with it and I've seen on the official boards that quite often claims actually fail when you do that. I'm not trying to frighten you, just that it won't actually speed anything up doing that and might even slow things down.

The most confusing thing here with the new in-house eBay dispute system is buyers believing that to get their money back they have to open two cases, one with eBay and one with Paypal. It doesn't tend to work like that - if the situation is ongoing, it's best to be a bit patient, as you will probably get your money back if the seller has only proof of posting and isn't going to bother to refund you before they get the RM claim done; eBay and Paypal say otherwise, but they have to have time to come to that decision, unfortunately.

Oh....I did it as I was advised to on this....am I best scrapping one claim then (say on ebay and state that i've closed it because I have a duplicate claim on paypal or vice versa) or just leaving it and keeping my fingers crossed?

I would be inclined to leave it, closing one could close the other too, then you are knackered.
