Is this asking to be burgled?

I must be missing something here because to me it sounds really obvious that one of these should be bought by you.
Forget your daughter. Whether she has a key in her school bag or not is irrelevant, the fact of the matter is that you leave a key under a bin ANYWAY. The way I see it is you might as well buy one of these for your cleaner to use as it is a million times more secure than just placing a key under a bin. If you really want to you can attach the key box behind the bin or something so that it is hidden but if you ask me it is better in a more visible place so that a burglar cant spend time hidden getting into it.
Why not buy one of these anyway regardless of what happens with your daughter and just stick the key in it when you know the cleaner is coming, if the cleaner isnt due then the key gets taken out of the box. Same principle could apply with your daughter if you don't want her having a key of her own just yet. If you go out before she gets home from school pop the key in the box.
Personally what i'd do is i'd buy a key box and the cheapest CCTV camera that you can find and mount the camera above the box. That way your key is accessible for those who need it but you can also check if it is being abused or if the worst should happen you'll have a burglar on camera.
By the way the key box is also really good for in emergencies. If somebody is home alone and has an accident an ambulance crew could use the key to get in to help you.0 -
Give her a key attached to something in her bag as others have suggested. I'm sure she can't be any more scatty than my eldest was - believe me when he started high school I was convinced he'd walk under a car, lose keys, forget bags etc etc. Somehow he made it to planet earth long enough to do none of those things
I think once they realise they have a responsibility they do grow up and do more than us worrying parents give them credit for

Attach a key to the inside of your daughter's bag using one of those keyhook things. (Technical aren't I?
) Therefore it's not seen by anyone else and the only way she'll lose it is if she loses her bag. Both myself and my sister got keys when we started high school (although 9 times out of 10 she forgot to take the thing with her! Luckily our neighbour had a key.)
P.S. Whoever got lockers in high school - I'm very jealous! I've got a bad left shoulder from lugging around textbooks! (Although that's more my own fault for insisting on only using one shoulder to carry my backpack... it had two straps, I just didn't use the right one.)0 -
I use Key safes on a daily basis with my job, the one you have put up is not as sturdy as say

It's not a trust thing i guess it's more safety..no offence but dd is 11, the cleaner is late 50's? if anything was to happen i guess the cleaner would be better able to deal with it then dd?0 -
Gabyjane, i have a pretty good idea from a 5 minute search which town you live in, that gabyjane isn't your real first name (that one was very easy and i know who is actually gaby) i know which two cars can be found on the driveway, your job(s) including hours, and the opposite driveway there's a camper van, that you live in a town house on a new estate and it's painted yellow/gold (?? - memory on that one so i might be wrong but could check!) and to look for a B&Q bunny hutch in the garden. I could delve deeper but hopefully that's enough to ensure you move your key from outside! I don't know your actual address but if i lived locally and knew the area i doubt it would take me very long to establish. Fortunately i'm not a stalker, burglar, axe-murderer or similar and don't live anywhere near your area!!
Let me know if you want me to delete this post ..ive limited what info i have given but it's easily found in minutes!
P.s. cleaner comes on Fridays!
Ha ok i'm not trying to be arkward but here goes!
Yes you are right on the colour of the house but there are quite a few new estates gone up in my town so would take you a while to find it as on ours alone there are many houses the same colour and design!..you wouldn't be able to get to the garden without probably someone seeing you as enclosed by gate..oh and the funniest thing is we dont have the hutch either!
We don't have 2 cars? there is no longer a camper van parked opposite it has been removed.
Cleaners do still come fridays but i now wait for them or give them a key at work due to them doing something daft so no more key anyway!
I get what you are saying though thanks but tbh i bet we could all trace lots of people on here? one of us is at home 90% of the time and im a nosey so and so!..oh and hubbys a copper so i dare anyone to try..nevermind him id'e break their bleeding legs before they had a chance to spot the bunny rabbit!!0 -
lol and that's me told! Glad i got stuff wrong as it least it makes you far more untraceable. Still i guess there's a lesson in there for us all to be careful about revealing too much info especially if it puts security at risk. I was worried my post would get me in trouble...then i thought earlier "what if she doesn't see it, someone does trace her and burgles her before she moves the key!" I guess i won't make MI5/6 after all!0

You could install it in one of these.0

Hi,
..oh and hubbys a copper so i dare anyone to try.
I new an old lady who lived alone, used to keep a policeman's bonnet on the stand at the bottom of her stairs by her front door, her thinking being, that if someone did break in, on seeing bonnet would scarper, fearing the consequences.0
