Tabby K, Blue spuds, was it this one? Salad Blue?

If so then do read up on it before you order, not really a salad variety & prone to blight, so it may not be a good choice, but could be fine for blue mash or chips
These were the potato's I was looking at http://www.heritage-potatoes.co.uk/shop.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=38I had then years ago from our local farm shop and they were really nice. T&M have them with some other heritage potatos on special offerA Life Less Simple - one day I'll get there0 -
Could I get some advice please?
I planted 5 lidl potatoes in late July/early August into a pot about a foot and a half deep (50cm diameter). I couldn't get a deeper pot (no plastic dustbins sold in near where I live).
They grew like triphids. I've been quite amazed.
I rooted around in the pot today and to my astonishment I have at least 2 potatoes (very near the bottom) of at least 4-5 cm long. I thought they wouldn't be ready until Christmas (and had planned them for Christmas Day)but they are already at the size I would normally buy for roasting.
Should they be ready now? They seem to have grown awfully quickly.
TIA

Just wondered if any of you enjoyed your pots today? Mine are still in their 'clamp' we did have a fantastic harvest of mini leeks which we had in a cheese sauce with the turkey. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Waaaah!
I forgot about them:o
They are still in their plastic bags in the greenhouse, so maybe I'll howk (technical term there) them out tomorrowA friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
Planted up some rocket potatoes into big tubs late last summer, hoping for Christmas potatoes. Unfortunately they never came up, so I emptied all but one tub when clearing up.
Today, I was clearing out old hanging baskets, and found a begonia tuber starting to sprout, so rescued it and a few others and thought I'll bung them in the tub that had the potatoes....
and found 2 vigorous looking potato plants coming up
Well, just shows there is no harm in being a bit untidy in the garden :rotfl:
PS: My seed potatoes still not chitting, shall I plant them anyway? They might come up in time for Christmas

Hello All,
I'd like to grow myself a few spuds to have roasted for Christmas dinner but am struggling to find anyone who is currently selling seeds. Does anyone have any ideas? Would I get anywhere with some from the supermarket i.e. try and chit them and plant the ones who turn out best?
Any other tips or variety suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks,
Rich0 -
Try getting seed potatoes from Dobies or Suttons (google to find the sites).
You'll need either a greenhouse or somewhere very sheltered (but light) to grow spuds for Christmas, because the first frost will kill the plants otherwise.
Good luck.0 -
Thanks.
The intention is to grow them on my patio next to the wall. The back of our house is in direct sunlight from lunchtime until sunset and feels warm to the touch throughout the year so hopefully will radiate that back out throughout the night. Last winter there was no frost up to about a metre away from the house.
Cuts down on the heating bills too as the heat conducts inside as well for a couple of hours after sunset.0 -
Ive been struggling to find anywhere that has seed spuds in, so if anyone finds anywhere that has stock, could you post a link? or any garden centres in norfolk that are selling some. thankyou!0

I saved the Emerald Vales that were freebies earlier this year. Put them in the ground last week and they're already sprouting! :j
I'm planning to cover in fleece if we get any frosts, will this be sufficient protection or should I consider making a large poly cloche type thing to go over them?
