When would you need to plant spuds out to get a decent crop in time for Christmas? Also, would it better planting newies or main crop? They say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0

You're probably looking at an August or September sowing time to get them for Christmas. They'll need about 3 months growing time. Generally you'd use new potato varieties or salad types because you'll have to grow them in bags or pots, and keep them somewhere warm and sheltered because any hint of frost will kill the plants. A greenhouse or conservatory will do the job.0

If you dig up some new potatoes & place them in a biscuit tin & seal it with sellotape & bury it - your tatties will be like new on Christmas day.0
