gazzer82: i'll ask bf about whether he's emailed a direct message to seller about the UK warranty etc., thanks for your help/support:beer:
If you can get it via the Uni discount it's much better and you know its not a grey import.
Not only will you get a 14% discount off the Macbook, Apple are also currently giving a Rebate on an Ipod Touch to Students of £130 when brought with a Mac.
If you don't want to keep the Touch, sell it on Ebay and you should get well over £100 which is a further saving.
Also students can get 3 Year AppleCare cheap, around £49 when normally it costs £199.
I also agree with Mike, I would get the cheaper Macbook Pro as the other only has a 0.26ghz speed increase and a slighlty bigger hardrive. Not worth it IMO.
So £859 via uni link, sell the touch if you want = around min £100 = around £758 for a Macbook Pro0 -
The uni discount above, has anyone non student used it successfully?0

would there be much of a difference with speed decrease of 0.26ghz, and a lower hard drive? buying direct from apple and getting the applecare cheaper is a big incentive. bf rang up apple and they have in the tel. announcement that parents can buy on behalf of their student-child. so, i don't think there is a need to go direct to the Uni campus to make the purchase. the ipod touch is a bit of a hassle to sell on, so we might as well use it.
thanks for your suggestions millionaire. it has helped us a lot. buying direct from the manufacturer does gives us more peace of mind, rather than a third party (ebay) seller. :beer:0 -

not only we wanted to buy the ipod touch for an extra £30 (after rebate), we also bought a printer too, which would be free after a £60 rebate. The EMEA is the Applecare 3 yr warranty.
I just done this this morning by freephone (if online, I wouldn't have known about the free printer, and the extra details that I wanted to know about). Didn't buy the Magic Mouse as I wanted to use it alternately with the Mac Mini 10.4v that we've already got, and it wasn't compatible for it (we'll update software at later stage).
For the educational discount, Apple wanted to get a scanned email copy of the student's ID photo card which was sent to the tel. sales rep direct. so, all in all, there was no hassle at all. altho' you need someone you know who's a student who could lend you their ID card (no need for NUS card, just the College/or Uni ID card will do)...
it comes on Mon (next day delivery) and i can't wait!:j0 -

The university discount is worth having. As others have noted there's an OK one for further eductation (which is the same as the one some employee schemes give you; it's about 7.5%) and a much better university one that only works with credentials.
But "grey imports" aren't really relevant anymore - MacBooks have worldwide warranties. I buy mine in the US partly because it's cheaper but also because I just hate the UK style keyboards (this is a very specific whinge but it's the placement of the ~ key, which is useful for cycling windows, and the hideous inverted-L return key they seem to think Brits want). Anway the upshot is I've had warranty service on several occasions in the UK with no problem both at Apple Stores and at Authorised Resellers.
Hope you like it - love mine.0 -
that's good to know that the apple service in the UK is realiable...0

I got the discount off my Macbook in 2007 by using my Learndirect documentation as proof that I was in education! It was only a £20-30 course as well!0
