There are tiny margins on apple computers so i very much doubt you are going to find it any cheaper than that.

There are some on apple's refurb website but none as cheap as that.

I am a little suspicious as to how they can be selling it so cheap, but they seem to have lots of positive feedback so it should be fine.

First time mac switcher, or is this a replacement for an older computer?

Let everyone know how you get on.

    Cheers

thanks for your replies peeps... was a bit impatient, i know, but as a newbie on this forum and seeing all the day's posts, thought some of you might have a tad bit of knowledge as to comment on what i was asking...

i was actually asking on behalf of bf who's switching from his toshiba lappie to a mac. i've got a mac mini which he bought 2nd hand a yr ago (model is 3yrs old now). i just wanted to see if you guys had heard whether macs can be bought cheaply, but having read GAZZER82's reply about profit margins being small, maybe there isn't much leeway in price differences from other retailers.

do you think the ebay seller is ok to buy from? altho' the seller has 100% positive feedback, i'm still a little wary of bf parting with that much cash to ebay than from a reputable shop. what do you lot think?

I would say that as long as you make sure you pay through PayPal and inspect the computer throughly when you receive it you should be fine, it looks like the seller has sold a lot of mac's before with exclusively positive feedback.

It might be worth pinging the seller a quick message just to check that it is a UK model and therefor has a UK warranty and isn't a grey import as you may have issues getting it serviced at an apple store if that is the case, though generally they are fairly lenient.

On a side note, i use mac's and pc's regularly day in day out, and you are making the right choice swapping to a mac, life is much much simpler on the apple side!!

    Cheers

i have a daughter at uni (she would have to go directly to UCL - something to do with using their server - to access her student ID for the discount) and we've checked out the price differences from a apple refurb one to a new one at 14% discount, and the new ebay one is actually about £30+ cheaper. bf is thinking of going direct to the the seller in london anyway to inspect it as the £23 delivery is about the same cost of a train ticket.

gazzer82: i'll ask bf about whether he's emailed a direct message to seller about the UK warranty etc., thanks for your help/support:beer:

I know, but 0.26GHz is not worth £130 more.
