Cormar Carpets - Clarke's direct, Hammond Hill, UK Flooring direct

Hi

I'm looking to buy Cormar carpet, but my local independant is charging full RRP.

I'm looking at Primo Tweeds at £17 and Primo Ultra at £18 approx. I've found them online a good bit cheaper at:-

www.clarkesdirectflooring.co.uk
www.hammondhill.co.uk
www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk

Savings are significant, ie taking prices down to under £12 and £13 per square metre.

Has anyone used any of these retailers, or can you recommend anyone else that's good that might have these carpets cheaply?

We're going to buy cloud 9 9mm underlay from tradepriced, thanks to all the threads on that which I read with interest!

I'd appreciate if anyone can offer any advice on the carpets now, thanks in advance.

lesley i bought some 60oz cormar town and country about 80m2 from one of these companies. cant remember exactly which one though! think it could have been these: http://www.direct-flooring.com

delivered the next day no problems saved a fortune.

This is what i do......do your research, find exactly what you want, price it all up online then ring all the companies. Play them off against one another but usually i end up going with the most helpful and courteous especially if there is only a few quid in it. Addressing me as sir goes a long way! Ha

We let our carpet fitter choose underlay etc rather than buying it. they went for the crumb heavy duty stuff rather than the cloud 9.

Thanks ds for your help. That is much appreciated.

We are actually also considering the Town & Country so I'd be keen to hear how happy you are with your actual carpet? It seems very thick, probably thicker than we'd planned on buying to be honest.

I asked on a work online noticeboard for fitters, and someone emailed me the number of a local one they have used that they were very happy with. I could get the fitter to measure up once we get our keys I suppose too. I'm most wary about finding a fitter, I'm worried that all the good ones work for the good shops. The prices are silly in my local shop though, £24.99 per metre for Town & Country and you will know that you didn't pay that! I also wonder if Carpetright sell these carpets, not that I'd be buying from them but it's less personal in there to go and look at them, they don't tend to follow you round the shop the way they do in a small shop.

Thanks for the help and re-assurance that online ordering should be ok. Out of interest, did they deliver it on a huge roll for you? I'm thinking that might be a bit of a nightmare, although we do have a very long room we could take delivery into.

    Lesley,

we love the carpet, bets money we spent on the whole house (full refurb) very hard wearing and heavy! well worth paying the extra. There is a hell of a lot of fluff from it mind but i think this is to be expected but it will surprise you. We have probably had 25 bin bags or more so far........dont worry though it doesnt detract from the carpet! You need to get reccommendations my fitter cost nearly as much as the carpet but i know what i get from him. THe best job so i was prepared to pay for it. Dont go to carpetright. It took me ages sorting and sourcing stuff and i think in the end it didnt make huge amount of difference to price in the end but i do a lot of this work and the end product is what it's all about if you're happy with it it doesnt matter how much it costs (to a dgeree) if you catch what i mean. There's always going to be cheaper but you get what you pay for.

Delivery they had to take my entire roof off................................:rotfl:just kidding. Its funny you should say that because me and my best mate had hours of comedy about just that. I swore it couldnt go in and he would be like of course it will!! 4m rolls. was a struggle but yes it was fine. Then it was the fitters problem! It took them a day to do the house.

Whereabouts are you, there is an independant guy that sounded good he just does fitting you supply everything else. he is based surrey but does all south east?

    let me know

Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.

We're in Scotland, doubt your fitter would be interested in the job!

    Hi,

I am currently in the process of finishing a complete house refurb and should be laying the carpets down soon, would really appreciate the details of that fitter please??

    Many thanks.
  • I bought some Cormar carpet online recently and saved about £9 per square metre. There wasn't a lot in the prices between two of the companies you mention; Hammond Hill and Clarkes Flooring. However I took the advice of ds1980 and chose Hammond Hill as they were the more professional. Hope this helps.

I never really followed up on this but should have.

We also used Hammond Hill. They were great, checked stock before I placed the order. They delivered when they said they would (the following week).

We got Cormar Home Counties in the end - it's a 42 oz wool mix, colour Italian Stone and it looks great with our Dulux Calico emulsion! I think we also saved about £9 per metre - was £22 in my local store, we paid just over £13, plus delivery which was reasonable anyway.

Hope this all helps someone. I was wary of buying online but it all worked out rather well!

I just wanted to say that I am really grateful for this thread. Having read the posts on this thread and doing other research, I decided to buy about 80m Cormar Town and Country carpet from Hammond Hill.

It's now been fitted and it looks superb. It is a great carpet, bought at a very good price. The whole process of ordering and delivery with Hammond Hill was fantastic. They even recommended an independent fitter which we used. Again the fitting was excellent. Like Lesley74, I was a bit worried about ordering carpet on the phone or internet, but thankfully it went so well that I would use Hammond Hill again without hesitation.

Again, thanks for the helpful posts on this thread!

Great to hear of another positive experience.

We're still pleased with ours, almost a year down the line. Got our keys a year ago yesterday and started getting the carpets fitted a few weeks after that. Some slight flattening on the heavy use areas, but really not bad at all. Nothing compared to previous carpets we had in our last house. I'm very happy also that the carpet hasn't marked, so it seems it doesn't attract dirt much either :j

Now looking for decent lino for our kitchen but not sure where to buy....of course if anyone has any suggestions! :T
