A & L that unique picture and phrase thingy is a security measure they introduced recently which is intended to show you are on the genuine A & L site and not a pretender..... you choose the picture and phrase yourself and if you don't see the same ones each time you know you are not on the official site.. they had problems but it works fine as far as I know .....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I've used HSBC, Egg, IF and Cahoot.
HSBC is easy to use but not as clean as it could be what with constant reminders of what offers are (or in my case, aren't) available (they are no longer my main current account and OH gets better offers than me). One feature I like about HSBC is the instantainous movement of money between accounts in the profile and the ability to shedule payments for the future (handy to automate payments and move money after payday).
Egg new interface is an improvement on the old one, only have had credit cards and loans with Egg but have to say that they can still do better with their loan interface. Having been a while since I've made an overpayment I didn't realise that the latest changes have made it more difficult to do so (the drop-down option is there but didn't work for me, perhaps it points to the old loan I had). Would like to see a list of the transactions made on the loan account in detail as the only way of working out what interest has been added is to do the math myself!
My main accounts are currently with IF, love the ability to move money between jars and draw on it immediately - has proved handy when I've needed to cash in on the savings in a hurry. The interface is clean and free from advertising and I quite like the purple colour.
Cahoot on the other hand I find clumsy... even now I keep on pressing the wrong link to see details of the loan. Only have them for "emergency funding" as they have a habit of changing the interest rate (down when they want us to use it and up once we start making regular overpayments).
Have just got myself a Halifax current account and have to transfer my DDs from my IF account myself unfortunately as it is the part of the same group and so not elligable for their "transfer offer". Have not actually used the interface for real yet but would expect usability to be somewhere between HSBC and IF.The only computer error is a human one.0 -
I also use HSBC and its great check it once a day, I also have to agree that the Halifax one isnt the best in terms of look and layout but there suppose to be improving it.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650

I like my accounts easy to find and easy to read.
Lloyds tsb is good, compact, easy to use.
A & L is a bit of a pain as someone mentioned earlier with not being able to see or delete people I've made direct payments to.
Halifax I like, portfolio page with all accounts, easy to switch between and transfer money.
HSBC, dont like it much so dont look at it much.
Cahoot....somewhere on there I have a loan....I've never been able to find any details of what I've paid, when or how much is left, so rarely go there. (Is there a way to find payments laid out like a statement by the way??)
So all in all, I like the nice looking, easy to navigate ones that dont test my brain cell too much

Yes noticed that. Certainly haven't found anyone else doing it. With internet banking above all, you want to know your safe0 -

Log in, and on the page that opens up there is a box labeled up with a dark blue banner called "Cahoot Accounts". In there, either 3rd line if you have a fixed loan, 4th if you have a flexi loan you will find details of the account - click on the "go" button on that "line" to see the recent transactions. From the page that opens up, if you click "statement" (under the blue wellie pic) you will get to the page where you can select the statement you want to see in the drop down that appears - select a date and press "go" to see a particular statement.
Having looked at the messages - they will be updating the look of the site soon anyway so hopefully it will be easier to use in the future. The only computer error is a human one.0 -
I've used the following:
Nationwide - good interface, the numbers to enter are hard to remember though. Good credit card facilities, payments reach the card the next day.
A&L - Horrible colours as said before, only ever used it for checking my current account and transferring money to other accounts, no DDs or SOs on it and no credit card. Quick transfer is handy but still not impressed. The login details are hard to remember but better than Nationwide. I like the picture feature, the idea is to stop a site coming up with a near identical address (e.g. nwolb.com being the real site and nwoib.com being the phoney) and cloning the interface to steal details. They couldn't show the photo so don't put your details in. I'd never be that gullible but an Internet newbie could fall into that trap. Every provider should nick this idea for security it is excellent.
Halifax - Check girlfriend's account for her, never done anything but check balance and transfer between current and savings account. Average, it isn't the easiest to use but not too bad. Details very easy to remember.
Natwest - excellent interface, good colours and easy to use, the codes are easy to remember (using your date of birth is a good idea) and the colour scheme is good, all services are easy to use. Rates on most accounts are crap though and the fact it takes 4 or 5 days for a credit card payment online to your Natwest card to show is annoying. If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0
