    thanks for that dsmann
just looked and it is an offer using a mac code which i dont have. I would be classed as a new user not a transferring one as i have the right equiptment but no supplier at present.

Sorry for any misunderstanding in my previous post. Regarding AOL, I'm sure that they have willingly taken ex E7 customers on the £9.99 1MB deal without a MAC code. Perhaps worth trawling though the AOL thread.

  • Hi Crystal Clear,

If you're worried about getting locked into a provider who is going to make it hard to migrate away if things aren't going well, make sure you sign up to a provider who's signed the OFCOM voluntary code for migrations:

    http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/codes/bbm_cop/

The providers who have signed this code have agreed to provide MACs upon request to their customers and cannot withhold them for any reason.

Another good pointer is that I think you should be looking at the individual cancellation policies of your choice providers. If you think you may leave prior to completing 12 months look for providers that charge a flat fee for cancellation and not a 'remainder of contract' policy. Although I disagree with the way that Virgin advertise as a monthly contract the fifty pounds cancellation fee is about spot on. I think AOL do a remainder of contract which means that you would owe them the remainder of the fees outstanding for your years contract and this could be in excess of fifty pounds.

Our cancellation policy is quite fair too - I hope that you'll have a look!

    Best of luck!

    Kind regards,

    Quite correct ...

Quite a few ex-E7'ers have got AOL 1mb unlimited deal at £9.99 + 1month free + free activation + free dialup whilst awaiting activation ... The main downside is that AOL often insists upon a 12 month contract for this deal (but sometimes only a 1-month contract, depending on the particular salesperson handling the call) ... Go check out the posts by "SK05" & "Cazzy" on the ADSLGuide AOL forum.

You might also consider taking a look at Freeola (Entanet) ... They currently have a special offer of 8meg ADSLMax + Free activation + 3gig cap on a 3-month trial contract at £9.99 (rising to £19.99) ..OR.. same deal + 30gig peak + 300gig offpeak at £14.99 (rising to £24.99).

IF you like the freeola deal (but's it's a mite too expensive for you) ... Then you COULD take out the cheap 3-month trial (which would save you £50 activation + £30 payments) ... The TOTAL 3-MONTH cost for this would be £30 for the 3-gig-cap ..OR.. £45 for the 330-gig-cap.

At the end of the 3-months, you could then MAC-migrate for FREE to somewhere like UKFSN (also Entanet) that offers the SAME "speeds+caps deals" at £16.50 & £19.99 (NO activation/migration fee) on a 1-month contract.

Alternatively, you could equally MAC-migrate for free to any other ISP IF there were a better deal around at the time.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Thanks Gold_shogun

I took your advice and looked at the Freeola £9.99 a month package on 3 month trial. I signed with them this week and they are connecting me Tuesday next week. I also took out the virgin sim only card at £15 p/m (online) giving me 300 xnet anytime mins and 300 txt a month no monthly contract as such. Whilst I pay for the usage at £15 a month I can at anytime upto 3 months from getting the virgin sim Migrate from Freeola to virgin broadband at no cost per month so i will in effect get free broadband and slash the amount of mobile call top ups my children go through per month as they are on o2 genie's but under new call tariffs the 1st 3 mins per day cost 40p that means they can make 8.33 (or 25 mins at 40p )calls on a £10
This way I can leave them with there sims from o2 but they can use the virgin one whilst at home to phone others, thus cutting costs all ways round.:j :j  :j :j
