If think in some cases we have little choice. Some of the companies are so bad at communicating with their shoppers this forum is the only place you will get an answer if you have a question. I have seen it happen on a regular basis.

I appreciate that some companies are terrible at communicating, however surely we should be asking for a definitive answer from the mystery shopping company, not just taking advice from another shopper who could be doing an assignment with a different brief?

And in fairness, i don't think this information is top secret. If a MS company was to telephone a business. Say we would like to make an offer to supply your MS program, may we please know who you use now i very much doubt they wouldn't get an answer. The client will always look for a better deal.

Of course, this is why clients are regularly changing their mystery shopping companies.

I know that many mystery shopping companies get their office staff to sign up with other agencies so that they can get full details of fees, briefs, clients etc.

I believe the hush hush is mainly to stop this thread being shut down. If we're shown to be breaking rules in terms of naming clients when we've agreed that we won't then the companies can complain to the forum team and they will close the thread.

The confidentiality request in the title of this thread is something that has grown in importance on this forum, but it seems to have been perpetuated by the regular posters, not MSE itself.

It's not just this forum that it has an importance on, it's also respected on all of the other forums that I am a member of, not just in the UK but in other countries too.

Yes I know that, as I'm a member on the other forums too! ;)

The whole confidentiality thing is pointless, as Blindman has confirmed.

There never used to be any confidentiality on the MSE threads, read back through some of the earlier ones & you'll see what I mean.

There are even earlier threads than Part 1 mentioned in the opening post of this thread.

I've had companies that have never replied to my request for help. TNS off the top of my mind. I would rather take the advice of experinced shoppers than drop the job. Sometimes it's just a little confirmation that i'm understanding it correcly and that i have interpreted the notes correctly.

And people normally know the ones with different breifs. I mean, from what i can tell the same scenarios have been around years without change making the ms redictive and sometimes useless.
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

Becles, maybe one for the FAQ?

    Already there in #3.

It's important for mystery shoppers to be observant :p
has anyone had surveys taken off them edig with no warning?

It normally says in the original allocation invitation that you have to complete most of it or do certain parts by a set date or they assume you are not going to do them and remove them.
Here I go again on my own....

But surely you are breaching confidentiality by discussing assignments? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • I've been MS for about 2 months and earned about £150. I haven't kept any of the print outs of questionnaires or coversheets because I thought it was a waste of paper and got fed up with the waste - instead I saved them as a document on the PC. Now I realise that it wasn't saved at all as it was a web page and I have no info about the jobs I have done. All I have is the deposit dates into my bank account every two weeks.

I'm not bothered about the MS company asking me for details, but I am in the process of registering as Self Employed and wonder if I will need them for that? I am a SAHM with no personal income other than MS, and there is no way I will earn enough in a year to be taxed on it. I would like to pay the NI contributions however, if it will mean I am able to claim maternity allowance at the higher rate, or to claim JSA should I need to in the future. I read in the first post that the amount payable for below tax earnings would be in the region of £2-3 a week. However, a later figure seemed to imply that an income below a certain amount would negate NI requirements.

Could someone clarify this for me please?
