Got the email through from paypal ... I've now got 20 days to bring a claim via their system.

I wonder how long the RM claim will take ? Yikes. No doubt the seller's had a shedload of emails from ebay and paypal about the disputes, haven't heard from the seller at all today. Don't want to fall out with them but I sure don't want to be out of pocket either.

Am going to give it to the end of the month then file a paypal claim. If RM, paypal & the seller don't pay up then this is my last purchase on ebay, which is a terrible shame because I've had some good buys from that site. Just can't afford such a loss, unfortunately.
I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.

I would be looking to escalate to a claim at the earliest point, even if it means being out of pocket for the return courier.

That is unless you're confident he will give you a refund immediately. Maybe give him a call and find out his intentions.

Just one more thing, if he asks you to close the dispute and he claims he will refund tell him no. He will be trying to con you out of the money as a claim can only be opened once.

Realistically I can't see the seller refunding without you returning the item, so I can't see why you would wait any longer before escalating the claim to a full chargeback. Whatever you do you are going to have to return it.

TBH i would just organise a courier and send whats left back
use topcashback and parceltogo and you can reduce the cost under £5

just remember it wont be insured.the only issue for you would be in the case on non receipt

Total cynic but I wonder if a smashed TV was put in the box and sent to you. Was there a picture of the item on the auction?

Either way personally I would be escalating it as soon as possible. I understand that you want to keep it friendly, I would too. Perhaps before escalating send the seller a quick message.

Yep, and what will happen if the seller responds to the SNAD that the item was trashed when buyer returned it? Couriers like parcelmonkey have very restrictive T&C for damages on 2nd hand items.

It'll be like those bottles of Ouzo that are passed around as Xmas pressies for ever, but no-one ever wants to drink.

they buyer will supply a tracking number showing the item delivered
this will trigger a pay out under the SNAD dispute
unless you have a better solution?

The SNAD is for the tv being trashed so I cant see the seller saying its trashed in the dispute making much difference.
